Essay?

This is a little something I had to write. It has been so cathartic getting it out. It's an 'essay' of my acceptance of who I am, of my sexuality, it isn't intended to offend anyone.

It's been brought to my attention that I should warn for profanity, I think there's like 4 -5 swear words at most, it's not littered with them but if you don't want ( Read more... )

I wasn't sure if I should reply there (lesbian) or here, so I'll just do it here. I really liked your piece. There were a lot of little moments where I felt I could have written it myself. Revealing your secret to a friend and finding it went through the rumor mill, parents constantly questioning while growing up, siblings figuring things out on their own, being confused because of superficial attraction to men. For awhile, I even convinced myself that the only reason I like looking at girls and prefer their companionship is because I wanted to be like them. Ohh, confused little Catholic me.

I'm still in the closet with my parents, but out with almost everyone else. I'm actually quite content with this. It's not worth the tension and arguments -- there's already a number of other things I'm fighting about with the parents.

I found it funny how you found out about lesbians. We really didn't have many people like us. It wasn't talked about. It simply didn't exist. I remember being eleven or maybe twelve, however, when I asked my mother, "what happens when a man likes another man?" or "Can a man like a another man?" because it's something I was personally feeling and I didn't have a word for it. I will always remember her response. "That doesn't happen."

I'm not a Glee fan and don't actively watch Ellen, but I'm really glad these two shows are out there in the open. Less confusion, more understanding and acceptance for a new generation.

Thanks for sharing this. :)

Thanks, here is fine :D

I don't ever plan on coming out to my mum, she would be so dramatic.

Thankfully I have my dad, but even still I was freaking out about telling him! (Funnily enough he had came out to me three days before I came out to him!) He has been so understanding and so ok about it, but he probably understands a lot of what I'm going through.
