Aging is an odd experience. As children we think adults must have all the answers. They, after all. have made it that far, so they must know how to live. As we grow and experience more in the world these notions once held as fact decay and are replaced by new more coherent information. Santa dies off and gift giving is done form one's heart instead of from some strange man in a red suit. We become distrustful of the things that we see ever day, suspicious. We keep moving on this track, forming new relationships with the elders of our families and in our lives. We come to be seen as equals, the next crop of fine young men and women that will someday settle down and produce the next generation of thinkers, artists, workers, politicians, criminals, and degenerates. And so it has gone on, decade after decade, century after century, knowledge and wisdom being passed down, changed, and re told to suit the "current" generation. Will we know what to tell them? Will we have all the answers? I doubt it but we will convince ourselves that we are doing the best we can with them. Neither betraying our common roots nor allowing ourselves to fully believe what we are saying is the truth. We really do do the best we can, living only to the full extent we allow ourselves to live at. But there can be more. Hope for the bright new morning. Hope for the day we can really care about all the others living on this planet. And most of all, hope for peace, light and love this holiday season. We all could use a little bit more. Till then...i stand in awe of how far we have come, silently nodding to the wisdom of our elders, trying to write my own page in our shared memory...night all. sleep well and dream great!
