Have finally seen Pirates of the Caribbean: on Stranger Tides!
Strangely, I did not really know if I wanted to see this movie. They had achieved something quite special with the first movie, then something entertaining with the trilogy, so I wondered what else they could do to top that.
My curiosity won over and I watched it, only to realize they did not top the previous movies, they just went for something slightly different. Some of the same characters on a different journey in a way, while keeping some of the humor, drama and fun of the original parts. Of course, it's all due to Johnny Depp's contribution; there would not have been a new movie without him and he drives the whole show. The rest of it is not so interesting: this was probably one of Penelope Cruz' most boring roles, Geoffrey Rush has already shown all he could in the character, and the little love story they brought in suffered the comparison of the love story odyssey from the original trilogy.
But if you can put behind the first three movies, I think that you could enjoy this at least somewhat, just like I did. Just see it as "A couple of the same with a bit of different". Or, as I renamed the movie, "The New Adventures of Jack Sparrow" :)
