My previous post is ever so old *sighs*
Hi Guys *waves* I guess that's what happens when RL gets in the way huh? I know some ladies on my friends list would agree to that... Whether it's the good or bad things, as soon as they get invading, there is just no time to type a long post about all the things we want to talk about that no one around us in our RL really cares about... Such as shows!
So here we are, it's Sunday afternoon, it's sunny, I have cool music on and I'm looking for a nice way to relax, which means... showtime!! Here I come :)
I thought I could use this opportunity to start talking about my shows this year... And boy have I the feeling I have just not been talking about them. I'm slowly catching up, so I will start with the shows that I have watched until the end of the season so far...
Here come some thoughts on Bones and the finale!
Although where and how to start I am not sure. I think it's safe to say I found the season to be generally great. Some very strong episodes, good stories, I had my share of tears of course, and great moments too.
The shippiness this year was well handled in my opinion, something that the writers are not always so good at. I have found that in the past, the shippiness could really be too much in our face, if that makes sense. I often felt like someone should tell the writers that half of the fun of shippiness lies in the "reading between the lines", the maybes and the viewers' own imagination. Too much can kill the fun, because there is no "tracking" of what is shippy and what is not. But I found that this year they dropped the "shippiness for dummies", maybe due to the fact that they are actually quite blunt about it. All in all, I quite liked how it was handled, it felt more adult in a way. Until the finale, but I'll get back to that in a minute.
I found the plot with the sniper throughout the season to be quite good, how that was linked in with other plots like the grave digger was surprising. Of course for the last episode about that where they killed Vincent, I cried like a baby *rolls eyes* I did find that episode really good, even though I was sad they killed an intern. But I found the episode really human, covering the feelings of everyone, and I actually felt that would have been a really good season finale, including the hint that something happened between Bones and Booth.
On a side note, before I get to the finale, I have to mention that one of my favorite episodes this season will have been the one with the deaf mute girl. Contained most of the ingredients that make the show so great.
Now on to the finale. I have found in the past that Bones is not very good with finales, and this year was no different. They are just not a show that manage to go out with a bang. They can make very powerful inner season episodes, but the finales always seem so unremarkable. No breath taking, thrill giving moments. The only year they tried to do that was the one where they turned Zach into a criminal. We all know how well that went down.
This year being no different, I found the most exciting part was Angela and Hodgins having their baby. That was such a cute, shippy and somewhat suspenseful moment! Probably the only thing I will remember of this finale. For everything else, the previous episode was better.
As for the last minute "revelation" from Bones to Booth about being pregnant... Not sure how to express that. For the X-Files fans out there, it felt like Mulder and Scully all over again. She's pregnant and he is the father? In what cut off scene did that happen, and do we ever get to see it? It made me more sarcastic than extatic. I am curious to see where they take that, but it felt so incredibly uninspired. I'm not sure what I feel about this plot direction, I guess I will stay sceptical until I see where they go with it.
So all in all, I really loved the season, Bones is definitely one of my favorite shows at this point! But the finale for me did not go out with a bang, it discreetly went out the back door.
Let's see what is to expect next year!
