Also, let me just say WOAH to the response for the first chapter :D! totally wasn't expecting that so thanks to everyone who read and reviewed. You officially rule :D

But enough of my blethering. On with the show!

Chapter Two

Gwen primped her hair and adjusted her clothes for what felt like the thousandth time. She was fidgeting, she knew that. She was nervous; terrified even. What if she was booed? What if the car door wouldn’t open? What if one of her heels snapped? She might trip up the stairs, or the door might not open - all these thoughts an a million more flitted in and out of Gwen Cooper’s head as she squirmed behind the tinted windows of the car. A few minutes, and her audition tape will have stopped rolling, and she would be fed to the wolves...

*

“Hiya! My Name’s Gwen Cooper, I’m 30 years old and I’m a PC in Cardiff.”

The tape showed a bubbly, smiling woman, with long, feathered hair.

“What do you think you could offer the house?” The interviewer asked

Gwen’s smile widened into a toothy grin. “I think I’m fun to be around and I know how to get a party going. But I’m also good at talking to people, so I think I’d be able to diffuse any hostile situations before they went too far.”

“What do you think is your best feature?”

“My eyes. My boyfriend Rhys reckons I can persuade anyone into doing anything with them.” She grinned cheekily at the camera. “That and my police training. Nothing better than to dent the male ego by being able to take them down.”

*

Davina looked at the crowd. “Come on guys; give it up for Gwen Cooper!”

The door to a sleek black car opened and Gwen stepped out to both cheers and boos from the crowd. Shaking slightly from the excitement, Gwen posed for a few photos before rushing up the podium to get to the stairs. Once she reached the top she turned back to wave at the audience, scrambling through the doors as soon as they opened.

“Oh Christ,” she muttered to herself as she worked her down the stairs to enter the house. “That was bloody horrible.”

Gwen stood at the base of the stairs, waiting for the light above the door to turn green. She took those few moments to pull herself together, calming her breathing. With a not-so-gentle push, the door gave way, allowing Gwen into what would be her home for the coming months.

Jack’s head shot up upon hearing the door open. He watched as a curvy brunette trotted inside, glancing around with wary eyes, obviously nervous.

“Well hey there.” Gwen span round to face the American accent. “Nice to finally have some company around here.”

Gwen tried to reply. She really did, but when faced with that blinding smile and eyes that blue, her brain severed its link to her vocal chord.

“I-uh, h-“

Jack gave a bark of laughter, and strode forward to meet the newcomer.

“Jack Harkness,” he said, hand outstretched. “Nice to meet you.”

Gwen, sending swift thanks to her body for recovering quickly, smiled shyly, extending her own hand to meet his. “Gwen Cooper. Nice to meet you Jack.”

As the heat of Jack’s hand enveloped her own, Gwen let out a shriek of surprise as Jack pulled her close, dipping her towards the ground, planting a sound kiss on her cheek.

“Pleasure’s all mine, I’m sure. Drink?”

Nodding (and quietly stunned) Gwen followed Jack into the kitchen as he poured out two glasses of wine. Taking hers from his grip carefully, Gwen studied the brash American seated across from her for a moment. She noted well defined muscles under the fabric of his shirt, and the almost golden tan that seemed to be flawless on his skin. She saw the stripes on the jacket he had thrown over the back of his chair - a man of rank; even better. She grinned. There was no denying it. The man was stunning. And with his openly flirtatious nature, and - as Gwen threw a surreptitious glance to his ring finger - his lack of a wedding band, Gwen thought the idea of living in this house for the next few months was suddenly infinitely more appealing.

*

Davina stared open-mouthed at the screen. Turning her bewildered gaze to the cameras, she raised the mic limply to her lips.

“Did you see that! He doesn’t waste any time, does he?” A few of the men wolf-whistled their approval of Jack’s enthusiastic greeting. “Not that we saw Gwen complaining, did we?”

Davina didn’t even try holding in her laugh as the crowds roared.

“Tell you what,” she shouted into the audience. “How about we throw her in some competition? Let’s meet the next housemates!”

*

“Alright, why don’t you tell us who you are, and why you’re here?” The interviewer’s voice floated from behind the camera.

A petite Asian woman sat in front of the camera, her arms wrapped around an attractive black woman, who was positively bouncing with excitement.

“Well my name’s Martha,” she squealed in her light London accent.

“And my name’s Toshiko-“

“But Tosh for short!”

Tosh laughed. “Yes, thanks Martha - Tosh for short. And we’re here to try and make women seem more fun in the Big Brother house!”

“We always watched it whenever it came on, and we were bloody sick of everyone  bangin’ on about how much of a bitch every girl in the house was, so you know what, we’re goin’ to make that impossible this year.”

“Yeah, we just want to go in, have some fun, meet some new people-“

“And of course be adored by the nation!” Martha shot and excited little grin at the camera as it stopped rolling, as Toshiko tried to cover her laughing with her hand.

*

“Ladies and gentlemen,” Davina called into her microphone. “Are you ready for... Martha and Toshiko!”

The crowds screamed and whistled as Martha and Tosh got out of their car and strolled through the paparazzi arm in arm. They both ran eagerly up to the podium and ran to Davina, hugging her tightly whilst the three of them squealed with excitement. Giving her a kiss on each cheek, Martha and Toshiko left Davina grinning like a madwoman and headed for the doors to finally enter the Big Brother House. Throwing their last waves and kisses to the crowd - and of course Davina - the two women stepped over the threshold as the logo-embossed doors slid closed behind them.

Gwen clutched her sides. Gasping for breath as tears of laughter pricked at her eyes. Jack wasn’t looking in much better shape, his face tinged red from laughing.

“Aw Gwen,” Jack spluttered between laughs. “I can’t tell you how many people refuse to believe me when I tell ‘em stories about the barracks. They all think the forces have to be so serious all the time. I tell you, if you ever want a good party, it’s military men you gotta go to, trust me.”

Gwen managed to get her breathing under control long enough to reply. “I’ll hold you to that Jack Harkness,” she grinned. “You’ll have to back all these stories up when we get out of here.”

“You can count on it.” Jack winked at her before getting up to refill his own glass with water. Noticing Gwen’s bemused stare, Jack elaborated.

“We gotta keep some wine for everyone else arriving haven’t we? Besides, you gotta keep hydrated. You never know what’s going to happen.”

Gwen opened her mouth to reply when to women burst in through the front door, laughing raucously.

Jack, quite frankly, glowed as he noticed the new arrivals. Abandoning his cup on the counter, he bounded over to introduce himself.

“Hello ladies,” he boomed, enveloping them each in a hug, picking them up and spinning them around, doing nothing to quell their giggling.

“Oh hello you!” Martha exclaimed after Jack set her down. “And who are you?”

“Captain Jack Harkness, pleasure to meet the both of you.”

“I’m Martha Jones,” she replied, receiving a kiss on the cheek form Jack.

“Toshiko Sato,” added Tosh, getting the same treatment. “But everyone calls me Tosh.”

Gwen, standing next to Jack, hid the glowering she had been doing upon seeing Jack’s reaction to the two new girls. Looks like he’s just flirty with everyone, then.

She smiled politely, hugging the women when appropriate and introduced herself, trying valiantly to ignore the sinking feeling in her stomach as Jack’s attention remained fixed on Martha and Tosh.
