Dream Lover- Spin-off to Pretty in Pink
I saw these two films at different times, and only thought the one thing that connected them was that James Spader was in them. Then I saw the two together and then had this thought- what if Ray was Steff 15 years later?
Now there are differences between the two characters- Ray isn't a disdainful jerk like Steff, and Steff would never act nice to anyone especially to an ex. But Steff was a kid (17/18) and Ray, at the start of his film was 32/33 years old- what if after high school, Steff just grew up a bit, dropped Benny and the jerkass tendencies, and decided to stop going by Steff and went by his birth/middle name Ray. Then he got married, which ended in divorce.
Then there his ex-wife, who is an attractive rather loving red-head but according to his friends his usual type are artsy slim brunettes, so maybe he is still going after Andie. Just that he has have a difference- either he tries to get her by proxy in getting a woman who somewhat resembles her looks-wise or a woman with similar interests.
Of course, in both movies it doesn't end well for him.
