Thanks for this! I got AE a few months ago, and I've been using the Meyers' Creating Motion Graphics, being a good student, going through chapter by chapter and doing the exercises. But like you, I've found I'm not retaining much of what I do.
I know! When I go through the exercises, for some chapters I find evidence in saved files that I've done some of them before, and I have no recollection whatsoever of this. It's freaky!
I think repetition will make more stick -- repetition of the exercises and repetition of creating more graphics, but right now that depends on having more projects that demand motion graphics, which just doesn't always happen. Maybe I should try doing clipping only in Premiere and do ALL the effects work in AE, but the thought makes me shudder. So much slower!
Right?! I've done a little with AE and then imported back into my editing software (I've found I don't have the RAM for editing in Premiere), but that requires forethought and planning. And patience.
