OOC: 21 Things about Thursday Next.

Apr 07, 2005 21:59

Crossposted from the mun's LJ, trancer, just because.

Thursday is absolutely devoted to her family -- most especially Friday, as he is her child, and Mycroft, due to the times they have helped each other out, and her father, as he is always there when she needs him. She adores Landen with all of her heart, but recently there have been forces outside of Thursday's control driving them apart.

She's never been a crier or a drinker, but if anyone sees her in the bar chugging vodka and staring at her hand, it's because Landen has been flitting in and out of existence again and her wedding ring is gone. (Maybe someone should tell Bernard or Bar not to let her drink so much when she hasn't got a ring. Or Broom.)

She really, really doesn't like trains. Absolutely despises them. This may be due to a connection of the Gravitube sickness, the Skyrail shooting and a jostling time spent inside Jhumpa Lahiri's The Namesake fixing bloopholes.

She's a walking spoiler for anyone who hasn't read the entire series already because I always end up writing her like that ... and is also a walking, talking canon puncture. And as I quote [info]batyathetoon, "I can't wait!" Unfortunately, though fortunately for Milliways' clientele and the game's rules, Thursday has an excessive level of tact and never mentions the potential fictionality of her companions.

While a competent speaker of the diplomatic Courier Bold and rather jovial Comic Sans, Thursday has no grasp on Latin, and can therefore never understand Friday.

Pickwick is the only soul who really thoroughly and fully understands Thursday, and she will do just about anything to disgruntle Thursday, too. Thursday is afraid Pickwick will begin to train Liam's young Plock, whom Pickers seems to see as a sort of younger brother, to do the same thing to the Pace family.

Thursday is pretty sure she's the only one who intentionally gets to the bar through means besides a doorway. I'm not sure if this is even technically possible for Millicanon, but it is right now. Maybe 'Travelbook' will be added to the Millipedia, someday.

She is not religious, nor does she want to be (time-travelling false saint gamblers did that to her) but on the other hand, has a respect for those who are religious, largely due to Joffy.

Despite her experiences Northside, Thursday would like to visit the realm of the dead for a day. This is simply because she misses Anton and Filbert and Miss Havisham, the last whom she insists is there despite its illogicality.

Thursday knows she's going to have a daughter that will be named Tuesday. What befuddles her about that is that now she has to name her child Tuesday even if she really doesn't want to, just because it's already happened. Confused? So am I, but Thursday really isn't.

... and, come to think of it, that's why things like Millitime don't even phase her. The fact that she could meet her companions from Swindon and they'd be from entirely different times isn't new at all, and Thursday's really genuinely surprised when others are puzzled by hearing tales of things that haven't yet happened. After all, they aren't going to change.

She's really very fond of Asmodean, despite the fact that the thread ended quickly because I lost connection he's really just a bit unsettling at times and his music is incredibly sad.

Liam was Thursday's first friend in Milliways, and is close to gaining her actual trust. This is partially related to the fact that he likes Friday, and even moreso that he likes dodos and actually wanted -- and kept -- one of his own.

She is increasingly grateful for discovering Milliways as a hiding place as well. It's a good deal more convenient than the Character Exchange Programme if she just needs time away from SpecOps to think. It also gets her away from Jurisfiction duties, unless there are other agents there. In the Bookworld, she can only hide from the Outland, and in the Outland she can't hide from either, so Milliways is ideal.

Thursday is truthfully considering trying to recruit people from the bar to Jurisfiction as apprentices. She's got a feeling it wouldn't phase any of them at all.

Her hair is in fact brown. Some of the icons (Laura Lee Smith is a difficult PB) make it seem red, but it's brown. (Do you know, I've never even seen Laura Lee Smith perform in my life, I just thought she looked like Thursday?)

Although she may act like her mother is bats for constantly offering it, battenburg is Thursday Next's comfort food.

If anyone ever wants to give her a very good scare, all he would need to do would be to ask Bar for some Dream Topping. Thursday would be instantly horrified that the world is about to end, and then when looking out the window, would see the end of the universe, and likely forget that it happens every day. A good distraction tactic.

She still has occasional dream-nightmare-thingies about her first sex partner, a fellow named Darren, whom she lost her virginity to in the back of a bright green Morris 8 while working as a housepainter. (And that's actually straight from Ffordian canon, it's just little-known.)

She has a terrible fear of having an affair. After the Arnold incident, something in Milliways might be able to tweak her to the point where she'll momentarily forget her husband. (Anyone want to play that?) That would be serious Thursdaybreakage, and it would make her fears over Daisy Mutlar even worse.

Thursday will answer to 'Fraulein N' or 'Sweetpea' without hesitation, no matter the circumstance, but never learned to answer to 'Bellman.'
