You know that song, Piano Man, by Billy Joel? I grew up hearing that song (my parents are huge Billy Joel freaks, so naturally, I'm not.) Well, I love that song. In spite of my preferring Billie Joe to Billy Joel, something about Piano Man is so haunting and amazing that it still sends shivers down my spine. I'm horrible with it. I mean, as soon as the song is over and iTunes skips to the next one on the CD, I scramble to change it back to Bright Eyes of HIM or whatever. So I don't know why my musical taste has these frequent jumps and changes. I absolutely love most emo, but then again, I also love Green Day, Nirvana, some Van Halen, the Ramones, the Clash, and then I come back around to something completely different, like John Mayer. Except for his new stuff, what's on the radio. Because even I can't stand that. So anyway. I really don't know what to think about my taste in music anymore.
Friday I went out to dinner with my mom, grandpa, aunt, uncle, and second cousin whom I've never really talked to. He was at my grandma's funeral, but I pretty much stuck with my cousin Matt, or babysat Luke and Emma the whole time. SO. It was interesting. My grandpa only really showed animation at one point in the lunch: "Vodka sauce? So, it's real vodka? And you put it in so it doesn't burn off? Interesting. You know, vodka's the only drink that you don't know when you're drinking it. Not a strong flavor, and you can't really smell it. It's the best to spike things with." WOW! As if I needed a lesson in alcoholism from my grandfather, the conversation turned to my second cousin (my mom's cousin. He WOULD be my second cousin then, right?) who thought I was in sixth or seventh grade. Geesh. I know I look young for my age, but really... so, that was, all in all, an interesting lunch.
Yesterday was Alyssa's fifteenth birthday party. It was pretty fun. Mostly I just hung out with Ross, Kelley, Nicole, Ricky, and Tina. An odd assortment of people. I remember when it would have just been Nicole and I, back in middle school when we had all the little clique type things, and it was just Ross, Kelley, Tina, Alyssa, and Thomas who hung out together. Wow. That seems like so long ago. (Yea for defying petty cliques, lol.) Like I said, it was a fun party, except that Kelley, at one point, felt the need to yank down my spaghetti-strap tank top so that you could see... well, a lot. Of course, Ross and Ricky happened to be standing right there. So if that isn't bad enough, Tina thinks it's funny, and fifteen minutes later, SHE does it! It was kind of scary. I spent the rest of the day pulling the straps up just to make sure they didn't randomly fall down or something.
So I got home around three thirty or so, to my Harry Potter book, which had come in the mail. Pure bliss! Ross ended up coming over for a little bit. We talked for awhile, but eventually just read. Only, I read way faster than the average person, so even though he had gotten his copy the night before, I was over 100 pages ahead of him soon. (Yea for speed reading!) Anyway, I'm done with the book, and I really love it. Besides the lack of Sirius talk for the most part, I think it was perfect. (At which point, a million people who KNOW who dies kill me...) but really, I think it was the right timing at everything. I actually guessed most of what was going to happen. Hmm. Anyone done yet? I need someone to talk to about it! '
Now I'm off to get changed for Hillery's graduation party... woot, two parties in one weekend... and next Friday I leave for Wisconsin with my mom, Kelley and Ross. Fun! I love this summer so far!
