Last night Nick, Jimmy, and I went to Newport to see Pinback in concert at the Southgate House (which is an amazing venue, and all around cool place by the way). While waiting for the show to start I noticed that the crowd was a very disparate group. There were teenage scene kids in the pit all the way up to forty-somethings hanging out drinking beer on the balcony - kinda weird. The opening band, Russian Circles, were great and completely instrumental. Pinback were every bit as glorious as I had hoped - they played a roughly two hour set. The band seemed to shuffle instruments between almost every song. And for the record, Zach Smith is an amazing bass player. He played as though he were a guitarist, playing most of the riffs I had always thought were done on guitar on his 4 string. I've not been to very many concerts but this one was by far the best.
I managed to get a few good pics and a video of them playing Concrete Seconds.
