Congratulations, to Andrew Fire and Craig Mello, on winning the Nobel Prize in Medicine for showing the world how to silence genes. Tis admittedly a huge thing - less than a decade later, it's probably one of the more frequently used techniques in medical and genetic research and experimentation.

On a more irreverent note, more proof that English is a living, developing language.

Also, I went to church with Rachel on Sunday (and had lunch with her today). The speaker for the day decided to start his sermon off with a short story from a trip he made to - guess where? - Wisconsin. You can imagine the startlement on both Rachel's and my face when he asked who had been to Wisconsin - we blinked, turned to each other, blinked some more, and slowly raised our hands into the air. (And you can just see the rest of the church go: "Wiscon-where? Wait, you mean someone's actually been there?!" *laughs*) I just love it when churches do this thing to me - I show up for the first time and they happen to do something that particularly relates to me in such a way that it makes me sit up and pay more attention. *wry grin* We went up to him after and chatted for a short while about what we were all doing there - he'd stayed in Oconomowoc for a few months last fall, but 'hadn't dared stay for winter', staying (and working, I think) with a pastor there. (You don't want to hear the story - it involved ice fishing and worms.)

Considering that, the day before, I'd seen this pop up on my news: Principal killed in rural Wisconsin school, it's just a bit...I don't know, not coincidental or ironic, but some weak combination of the two. And yes, very sad.

I sleep now.
