Winter Event. Yes. Running boardgames seems like a good way to get to know other LARPers, so I like that idea for the afternoon. I have no problem with early February, though with the new crop of high school age players that are starting to get involved, we may need to look at things like finals for university and timing in that regard. It may be easier to just run one game that weekend, though two might also be perfectly good. I don't think a Sunday event for the Winter event is feasible. As for expanding beyond LARPs, I think anything that expands the community of LARPers is a good idea, with boardgames being an excellent starting point.
Deadlines. Neccesary. I wonder how they could be moved to allow the STs involved to be more prepared. Most of the LARPs I've played in have started late because the ST wasn't ready to go at the start time. Perhaps moving the deadline farther from the Con itself would encourage them to have more time to prepare? I don't know how to resonably resolve this issue, since most STs are pressure writers, churning out huge amounts of material at the last minute. Layne, Wade and Gord are perfect examples of this.
As for SLARPCon, I like the 3 games (one Friday, two Saturday) and a BBQ brunch on Sunday as the best option.
I'd like to see more social outings (pub crawls, BBQs, coffees, boardgame nights). LARP is such a social event, and I find that not knowing a chunk of the LARPer by even first name makes gaming difficult at times. Facebook helps, but it can only do so much since not everyone uses it.
Are fundraisers neccessary? Are the fees for the games and membership fees not covering event costs?
I think SLARPA has been very effective with it's communication. Facebook groups and email lists are cost effective and easily managed. Maybe adding a twitter feed or a blog specific to LARP?
Fee's and benefits: Are they sufficient? Are we hurting for funds? If someone wants a more opulent venue, then from there plans can be made to fundraise, can they not?
I like having a discount at Dragon's Den if they are still interested in that. Maybe a discount on makeup purchases at Spotlight? Is Spotlight even still open? Geez. I'm so low maintenance. Maybe a discount on game fees for LARPs run in the city? I have no idea how that would work.
Aside from advertising for the various LARPs being run, and offering assistance with providing venues, I don't know how else SLARPA can be of assistance to various games without it being perceived as "interference"
Does SLARPA have a pool of props or set dressing that it can lend out to LARPs in town? That might be nice.
If I was running a game (wait for it, it might happen) I'd request space on the forums, assistance booking venues (administrative rather than monetary), some loaned set dressing or props, and advertising to the LARP community for new players.
I love the alliance with the UofS Gamers club since it allows cross-advertising to a wider base of players and access to campus venues.
Does SLARPA have a flyer in the local comic stores and at Dragon's Den?
How are we staying in connection with FRAG and other gamers like the groups in PA and Edmonton? Is anyone still in contact with gamers in Brandon or Calgary?
