Name: Chel
Movie/series: The Road to El Dorado
Year/Position: College: 2nd Year
Non-Speaking Animal Companion(if any): N/a
Powers(if any): N/a
Canon history:
Here~ AU history: Recently it was agreed between the other Road to El Dorado canon-mates and me that the canon point for all the characters would be set post-movie. Ultimately, this doesn’t change very much. I’d like to simply pick up where the last Chel left of if that flies ok~
Personality: Chel’s character is generally manipulative, but not in an evil way. She knows how to get what she wants and uses a lot of flirting/sex appeal to get it. This is seen numerous times when she’s negotiating a bargain with Tulio in the movie. She’s a big tease, but uses it to her advantage. While doing this, she’s also able to stay determined for her goal.
Some sense of loyalty is developed through her character as the movie continues. While her lies tend to cover for the con artists, it becomes clear that Chel genuinely wants to protect them. Going to Spain became less of an escape and more of a future with Tulio. Even after the slight jealously rivalry Miguel gets for her, she gives him a peck goodbye. Towards the end, she risks a lot to stay by their side, and after she’s saved, her first goal is to go back and check on Tulio.
Upon first meeting her, it’s easy for one to tell that Chel is very adventurous. In fact, it’s one of the first thing she tells the pair - that’s she’s just looking for adventure. She only originally agrees to help them so she can get her escape. She looks forward to it all, the excitement and thrill of being somewhere other than where she is. She’s just down for a good time and being a little reckless while doing so. Her motives are never clear, so it’s assumed to be her personality.
Greatest Fear: Chel’s fear lies in being trapped. She doesn’t want to feel forced to stay in one place without the option to leave. It’s seen in the movie, where she’s recklessly running despite those chasing her that she wants her chance to escape. Even if she is just going somewhere else, she wants to feel like she has the power to leave whenever she wishes.
What are you plans with this character?: I’d like to pick Chel up where she was left off, which is in it’s own little twist of drama. Her character can easily find a way to get involved in dilemmas.
❦ Writing
Third person writing sample:
Each step seemed to make the anticipation pounding in her chest grow. Chel couldn't be sure whether her heartbeat was from the excitement of being in such an unfamiliar environment or if a part of her was actually nervous to be here. Nervous? She nearly laughed at the thought, making sure to hold her head high as she walked through the vast hall. She may be many things, but she certainly wasn’t nervous.
The walls and the windows and the classrooms, she made sure to take note of everything as she passed by. Until of, course, she was in the building that held her dorm. Her mind wandered to what it would be like for her here. What if she didn’t click right with anyone? And a bad roommate…that would be enough to make her ready to pack her bags again. Before she opened the door she stopped herself; she was starting to think like Tulio. How lame was that?
She gave the door a quick push and let out a wide grin to her surroundings. It was so fresh, so new; how could she not love it? It wasn’t fancy or even decorated for the most part, but it wasn’t El Dordao. In the end, she knew she wasn’t stuck here. If she ever truly felt like it, she could leave. Chel glanced around and shut the door behind her before she gleefully threw herself on what was now her bed. She nuzzled her cheek into the pillow and let out a long content sigh.
As much exploring as she would like to do, she was tired. And being that at the moment her room was empty, she could openly smile while she rested. When she felt ready, she would freshen up and mingle. She had barely gotten to see the place, let alone acquaint herself with anyone. This place was home, after all.
Home for now at least.
First person writing sample:
[Chel quickly tucks her hair behind her ear before turning the communicator on. Once it was clear, the figure of a curvy Latina sat across from the screen, adjusting her composure before smiling.]
So…it’s been pretty quiet around here. Not much has been going around on my end….
[Her voice drifts off as she starts playing with the ends of her hair. She sounded desperate; best to keep this short and sweet.]
I guess what I’m trying to say is I could use a pick-me-up. Soo…you all remember where my room was, right? Why not stop by? It’s pretty early.
[She looks over her shoulder with a sigh, but twists half her lips into a smile.]
You don’t have to respond to this, a knock on the door works. You know where to find me. Joe West Hall? That’s where I’ll be.
[She leans over to turn the receiver off but stops halfway, hesitating, before turning the communicator off.]
