It's not just about the art, it's the fact it presents a different way of two people ultimately falling in love. That's why females love it, I'm sure. Also, not all humour has to be belly laughs, and it wasn't just the Japanese culture stuff that was funny in the film, although being that it is called 'Lost In Translation', that was a major point.

Anyway, the film itself isn't going to win any awards aside from best directorial debut for Sofia Coppolla, which is fair enough as I've not seen a better one in the last 12 months. The acting is good from the two leads, though perhaps not BAFTA award-winning, but again, can you really think of better performances (given the material) in the last year?

So I rated it 8/10 as it was as entertaining/engaging for me as any other film I've rated that amount. Sure, there wasn't suspense, or big explosions, or constant humour, but there wasn't supposed to be! It's a different kind of film, which I can only say is either simply beyond your taste, or that you've not been exposed to enough to appreciate it. And of course, the critics have, hence all the praise that you're hearing about.

Last time I checked, film was considered an art form.

But anyway, what's that got to do with it? It won BAFTAs for acting and editing, nowt else. Quit moaning.
