Discovery of the day: Clowns = Gladiators

The music that pops into my head any time somebody mentions a circus actually has a name!

"Entrance of the Gladiators", composed in 1897 by Julius Fučík.

That's an oddly grandiose title, and is made very frightening when you consider that the song now often heralds the entrance of clowns.

Great, now I'm going to forever associate clowns and gladiators in my head. THANK YOU WIKIPEDIA.

Here's the song: http://wurlitzer-rolls.com/6526-9.mp3
The most recognizable part starts at about 15 seconds in.

This highly amusing transcription is taken from metafilter:

doot doot doodle oodle oot doot do do
doot-doodle oot oot
doot-doodle oot oot
doodle-oodle-oodle-oodle-oodle-oodle doot doot
