well it's spring. despite the up and down temperature at least it's above freezing LOL. I smelled someone's grill the other day which delighted my olfactory senses for a few minutes. I hope to camp more this summer, and maybe even get to my family's cottage sometime. But most of my summer plans has to be put on the backburner for now, and focus on my Bingham Cup trip in Ireland. I must admit the financial aspect of it has my head spinning, not knowing how much things cost out there. I've travelled alot but mostly to the US, which is not too different culturally and financially. So in a way I'm putting all my pennies in an ireland pot for now, just to play it safe.
One thing I know for sure is that i'm EXTREMELY excited about it. 36 semi-odd teams from 10 or so countries playing a tough sport I grew up playing, a sport in which I've always thought couldn't be played by gay men. That was the internal homophobia I had growing up, having skewed viewpoints and not being comfortable with my own sexuality. But all that has changed, and I am so proud to be part of something like this. To some players rugby is a new sport for them, but not once does it diminish their desire to play. I see that in player's eyes and it gives me the rush I felt playing in provincial championships in my youth. It's that same feeling that keeps me playing to this day. I did go to Bingham Cup in NYC a couple years ago but this year it's got more of an international feel due to the location. I don't know how Dublin can hold a hundreds of gay rugby gentlemen but I'm sure they'll find a way LOL.
This weekend we have a membership drive at Woody's on Friday, and a few guys from Ottawa are coming. They're trying to start a team in Ottawa and it would be great addition. It would be amazing to have a team from all the major canadian cities but that would take years to develop. In the meantime we just support canadian gay rugby so come out if you're from toronto or in the area on Friday :)
