steam punk projects

Greetings gentle folk, once more i have delved into the chaos that is my workshop and returned to a project commenced sometime ago. Some of my esteemed audience may recall my previous attempt to create a flight pack which alas failed to meet expectations. However the parts collected have gone a long way toward the mark two version.

to begin then, I recovered the back pack plate and one of the two original pvc tubes that would have become a two chamber rocket pack. Drilling a new set of holes (at this rate the back plate starts to resemble swiss cheese) i mounted the better of the two in a central position and cut two wooden seats for the tube to rest upon. these will be glued into place once the wing mounts have been created.

Next i hand drew out the wing ribs from an old airplane model plan and traced them onto three ply plywood. These were carefully cut out with my power saw and sanded to shape.

A quick trip to the hardware store obtained an aluminium tube that serves as the main support strut for the wings internal structure.

as yet this completes the days work though a quick dry fit together gives me a wing span of close to 5 feet from wing tip to wing tip.

So far i am well pleased with the results and am hoping to have it finished by Chimera next year.

Now for the second part of my entry, there have been rumours that i am writing a steam punk larp. Rest assured dear reader, these are no rumours. as yet i have still to finish the experience and downtime system and write the inventions booklet, but the main body of the work has been concluded and is being prepared for conversion to pdf format as we speak.

If all should go to plan I aim to run a game early in the new year, perhaps even for my birthday if all goes well.

until next time then,
