So, for those of you that didn't hear through babylil or meeshy. On May 23rd I managed to fracture my spine. Yup, it was a pretty special thing to do!

Was riding meeshy's horse, Sapphire, and didn't quite manage to clear the jump. Thought I was gonna stay on, but Sapphy went one way and I got flung off another. I didn't fall very hard and it wasn't very spectacular, but couldn't feel/move my legs. Scared poor meeshy to death, but she was very good and did all the things she's supposed to do. So, one ambulance ride, lots of morphine, throwing up, x-rays, CT scan, more morphine, more throwing up, MRI scans, little more morphine and throwing up later and I have a...

[copied from my discharge notes]- "L1 wedge fracture with 40% loss of height anteriorly and retropulsed fragments... bilateral radioculopathy manifest as hyperaesthesia in L4 to S1 dematomes..."

So I couldn't move my legs and although I couldn't 'feel' my legs as such, the nerves were going crazy and the slightest touch to my leg caused me lots of pain. The nurses kept trying to cover me over with a blanket, which was very nice of them but every time it touched my leg it *really really* hurt.

They put me in the intensive care and had an operation the next day. I have a (nearly) 10 inch scar going across my back around to my right side, and I have four screws, a rod and a cage to replace the vertebrae that they took out. I was in ICU for a couple of days and then went into the high dependency unit for a few more... Not really that sure, as I was still on quite a bit or morphine. Time's not really that easy to follow when you're high and lying flat on your back, only moving when three of four nurses come to turn you over! Oh, and I had two chest drains, which were fine when they were in (didn't even really know that they were there), until they took them out. Didn't hurt but very, very unpleasant.

Went to a neuro ward (at some point) and was there for about a week, juts under.

I have to wear a back brace, and am still wearing it. Although I can take it off when I'm not doing anything in the house now. Still signed off work, although can go back at the beginning of September (yays).

So, yes. Pictures below!
