An email I recieved at work - I know I have two old dresses laying around my closet, and I am sure Mom has my old ones somewhere. This is a better fate then they would have otherwise had.

Thank you

To My Dear Colleagues and Friends,

I wish to bring once again to your attention a very important request . Judging from the response I got before, I am certain that if you decide to participate, either again or for the first time, that it will make you extremely happy. Something I'm sure all of us can use from time to time.

Do you have in your closets any of the following items?

- An old Prom dress

- An old Suit and Tie

- A brides maid dress (that will probably never to be worn again)

- A used tuxedo (that the sleeves and pant legs are now too short)

Well, I have a deal for you!! This is how you can dispose of these items and smile while doing it.

Just recently, we received an e-mail from one of our contacts down in Diamondhead, Mississippi, who many of us here at UJC has been working with over the past 6 months dealing with the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. She informed us that almost all of the high school seniors in her community lost most of their clothes as a result of the hurricanes last year. The worst part, she wrote in an e-mail to me was that most of the kids gave up hope of wearing a prom dress or tuxedo for the one thing they have always dream of going to, their senior prom. She asked me if there was any possibility that we could find a way of getting people to donate some of these items to these most unfortunate kids.in her community. Being the softy that I am, I told her that I would really try.

I'm pleased to inform you that her request did not go unanswered and that over 500 dresses and gowns and close to 400 tuxedos and suits were sent down to Diamondhead. As a result of the enormous outpouring of donations, our contact approached three other High schools in order to make the garments available to their students as well. Next week will be their Proms. I have been told that there is an absolute air of excitement and appreciation in Diamondhead and its neighboring communities. Thanks for you support.

So why am I writing once again? Well, we have discovered another community with a similar need for gowns and tuxedos and once again, I would like to appeal to you for your assistance. Hattiesburg Mississippi is up the road a bit from Diamondhead. They too suffered great losses as a result of the Hurricanes. So, we just won't stop with Diamondhead. Today, lets redirect our attention to Hattiesburg. The need our support as well.Hence, this e-mail to you.

If you think that you could be helpful, please let me know (by e-mail). Trust me when I tell you that you will be performing a Mitzvah - a good deed. In the meantime, these items should be sent by either UPS or FedEx since the US Postal Service is not as dependable. Especially since their Senior Prom is scheduled for the end April. So we really do not have a lot of time to accomplish this most worthwhile task.
.
So, please have people ship their gowns, dresses, tuxedos or suits to:

Raphael Scott Waldrop, Forensics Instructor
c/o Hattiesburg High School
301 Hutchinson Avenue
Hattiesburg, Mississippi 39401

INFORMATION REMOVED. Thank you for "Living Generously".
