Halloween was a total bust. We had one (1)! measly trick-or-treater. She was a lovely princess, but I feel gyped. We decided to walk down to the corner store around 3:30 to get something for snack food and saw a few groups out then (!) but that's much too early for trick-or-treating in my opinion. Still, when we got back to the house, I put the candy in my purple bowl and we went outside to sit and wait for them. Got the one, waited about 30 minutes and decided that we didn't see anyone else around so we went back inside. Never even heard the usual groups going around later that night and not a single doorbell ring.
We had talked about going to the Halloween parade, but since we are both recovering from a head cold we decided to watch the TV coverage of it instead. That was a good choice on our part since it poured at one point. I put my kitten ears on at least, and Onyx eventually decided that I wasn't some horrible beast. At first she went all hump-backed puffy tailed on me, but I took them off and let her sniff them. Then put them on, took them off a few times while she watched me. That seemed to calm her down and I got to hold her later so I was forgiven for being a horrible other cat.
So now I have four bags of candy left. Honesty forces me to admit that there is probably only three bags left after we munched on it all day Sunday. I have such a weakness for candy and
bardicstorm is worse than I am about sweets.
Early on Saturday we had an exterminator come to deal with the squirrel in the ceiling. We ended up deciding to put poison in the ceiling to deal with it because traps were not practical. I'm really not happy about that decision, but I have to concede that traps would not function well. The landlady is going to have roofers come to fix the holes in the roof and eaves where the squirrel gets in so hopefully it will be just the one.
On Sunday I woke up in time to watch the start of the NYC marathon and that was fun. I ended up watching the entire race. It's amazing to me how many people participate in the marathon - they were saying it was 42,000 this year. I really enjoy watching them stream across the bridge. I'd love to see the start live someday, but you really can't get anywhere near it so I doubt that you get a good view.
The rest of Sunday was spent playing a little DDO and watching some TV. Also cleaning the kitchen and other general household chores. We had the windows open all day Saturday and the house got a good airing. Now we'll have to go through and close up the storms for the winter. It was really nice to have one more day of open windows. It made a real difference in how I felt on Saturday.
I know that I needed to not do much this weekend as I'm feeling a lot better today, not as sick. But I still feel kind of like a failure for not going out more on Saturday. I'm glad we took the short walk down to the store at least.
