Welcome!
With the 17th season of Law & Order, the the 8th season of Law & Order: SVU, and the 6th season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent arriving shortly I thought it would be appropriate to make this community. I am a sophomore at NYU with a little too much time on my hands (not really, but I can work and watch L&O at the same time.) I am obsessed with Law & Order. I've been a loyal follower of all of the shows (including the late.-lamented Trial By Jury) since I understood what "prosecute" meant.
Law & Order (original) is unfortunately in for some major changes this season. The series was barely renewed after last season, which is very disappointing to me-- as much as I don't want to admit it--this may be the last season. Dick Wolf and co. are attempting to give the show a make over, which I am terribly afraid of. The younger generation wants so see more shows like CSI--with high tech gore and rampant sexuality. Wolf's attempt to give into that will turn off the old followers and destroy the show. I am not pleased with the addition of one of the two new cast members. The replacement of
Annie Parisse (ADA
Alexandra Borgia, who was brutally murdered in the season finale) was inevitable. She will be replaced by another hot woman,
Alana De La Garza (playing
ADA Consuela "Connie" Rubirosa) from CBS's CSI:Miami. But I am very disappointed by the loss of
Denis Farina--I don't know how they plan to bump him off (I hope he doesn't get killed). While no one can replace
Jerry Orbach, I liked
Det. Joe Fontana and I think he worked well with
Det. Ed Green. The point is to have an older more senior detective, paired up with a younger junior detective.
Jesse L. Martin is definitely not old enough (although he was promoted) to have the sexy
Milena Govich, (from Dick Wolf's failed Conviction & my other favorite show Rescue Me) playing
Det. Nina Cassady as a partner. This pairing will be the downfall, because both of these characters are young and they both have lives and the last thing I want to see on my Law & Order is these character's personal lives getting too involved in their work. However, I will try to remain optimistic and as long as my rocks (
Sam Waterston &
S. Epatha Merkerson) do not leave, I will be happy.
Special Victims Unit is my guilty pleasure. I am so attached to all those characters. In case you didn't know, while
Mariska Hargitay spends time (about 6 episodes worth) with her new baby girl (
Det. Olivia Benson goes undercover), she will temporarily be replaced by the attractive
Connie Nielson.
Criminal Intent was hated last year. Contrary to the masses I love
Vincent D'Onofrio. I love
Det. Robert Goren's style, his in-your-face-ness, his twitches. And I was soooo happy when
Chris Noth came on the show, reappearing as the hot-tempered
Det. Mike Logan. (although he looks sooo old). I didn't know that
Annabella Sciorra was leaving until I was reading an article about the show--she will be replaced by another hot veteran of the failed Conviction,
Julianne Nicholson (playing
Det. Megan Wheeler). The loss of
Jamey Sheridan was surprising but didn't kill me cause
Capt. James Deakins never had a huge role, until right before he left. He is being replaced by
Eric Bogosian, playing
Capt. Daniel Ross. Finally
Courtney B. Vance--who gave no reason for his departure will be replaced by
Theresa Randle, playing
ADA Patricia Kent. With all these changes, I have no idea how this show is going to swing,
So the point of this community is to discuss the episodes after they air on NBC:
Law & Order premiers FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 22 at 10PM (note the change from Wednesday--no more competing with LOST)
Law & Order: SVU premiers TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 19 at 10PM.
Law & Order: Criminal Intent premiers TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 19 at 9PM (note the change from Sunday--it's on right before SVU now.)
