I was walking back from the laundry room at my apartment complex when a little boy, prolly in the 6-7 year old range, came up to me and asked me a question. "Are you a boy or a girl?" I responded with a chuckle and I'm a boy. he got a puzzled look on his face and then asked "Then why do you have the (points at his head)?" I take this to mean he is referring to my long hair. I tell him I have it because I like it. He stops and thinks for a moment then responds matter-of-factly "Then you are a girl" and then wanders off.
It was terribly cute. He didn't say it with malice or as an insult. His world just is still narrow, everyone in his world with long hair is a woman. Sometimes I think it would be nice to return to those innocent times.
