ramadan (i think thats how you spell it)
As of yesterday Muslims all over the world do not eat anything, drink anything, smoke anything, or fuck anything from sunrise to sunset for the next 30 days. This is done as a way to be closer to god. It helps you understand how some people feel everyday of the year. Everyone knows there are people that go hungry. I can not emphasize enough how differnt it is to see with your own eyes though. The other day I gave 3 kids between 3 and 6 years old what converts to be about a quarter each, because they said they were hungry. They ran directly to a fruit stand were i watched them purchase a pear and eat it. While they ate the looked like the happiest kids I have ever seen. They came back over to me and told me how great of a guy I was and how much they liked me. Their mother was walking around with a newborn in her arms and I gave her some money also. I feel like such an asshole for spending most of my money on such selfish things. Maybe thats why I am participating in ramadan with the muslims I work with. It sucks, but it makes me feel good.
