THE AMERICAN GIRL DOLL POLL

Poll

Apparently there are more dolls/books now? But Kit was BRAND NEW when I was 9 and I thought it was super cool that she had freckles like me.

Please rant about how great your favorite character is below.

I used to get the catalogue and just read it slowly, savouring the pictures and obsessing over the stuff I wanted. When I was eight, I saved up $88 so I could buy myself a Samantha, because she was so pretty. I worked hard, doing all sorts of chores and stuff. But then when I had the money, my mother told me I had to put it in a savings account, not use it to buy a doll I wouldn't even play with soon, a move which explains a lot about me, I think.

To this day, I occasionally contemplate running out and getting a doll anyway.

I was also entirely enamoured of Felicity's blue dress. You know the one.

I DO THAT WAS THE FIRST AMERICAN GIRL BOOK I READ. IT WAS A GORGEOUS DRESS THOUGH I WASN'T SOLD ON HER HEAD DOILY

You want me to pick you up one on my way home from work one day? I go past the store LITERALLY every day.

Don't tempt me. Although, Amber, if I get one, it'll be in-person, followed by dinner at the USA doll cafe. You'll come too, it'll be my treat. Then we'll brush the doll's hair and talk about how we hope we get our periods one day.

Wasn't Samantha discontinued?

That's the other kink in the plan. I suppose I could go on eBay, or be a grown up.

Being a grown-up is dumb. LET'S GET YOU A DAMN DOLL AND SCARE THE SHIT OUT OF COURTNEY

I really do want a stupid doll.

I don't have any rational justification for it, however. I should spend that money on boots and food.

I had a spare Samantha a few years ago. I could have sent her to you.

I gave her to a child, but still. In theory.

I am fine with you stealing from a child that I may decorate my living room with a doll.

I don't think you should steal the doll she gave to a child. Esp if you check downthread, the child calls it an "angel."

Amber. How else is she going to learn?

That strange adults from the internet are going to steal dolls from them to avenge a weird moment from their own childhood?

When you phrase it that way, it sounds sociopathic.

I was thinking more like, "easy come easy go"

Please don't take it from them. They are the cutest little girls. Their big blue eyes would tear up.

Plus, their parents would hate me because they'd have to buy them another one.

My grandma's whole house is decorated with dolls. Just saying. Always has been.

They are retiring all of the older dolls and replacing them with shinier, less historical dolls. One doll has a Volkswagen as an accessory. Oy.

In other words, the "Just Like Me"/"Girl of Today" line has taken over the company and Mattel is trying to capitalize on it. The current dolls are less well made and smaller. The old clothes do not fit new dolls because they are too skinny. It's sad.
