The Darndest Things

My students might have trouble with the concept of osmosis, but sophistocated humor is no problem for many of them. The following exchange is a good example:

We are doing a lab in which we use eggs as a model of the cell to explore osmosis. When my kids say "eggs", it sounds more like, "Aigs" or even "Ais".

Charles: Ms. Healan, I'm why'd you give us Ais? I'm going to tell everybody you gave me Ais at school.
(kids titter, I give my best attempt at a Look)
Me: Charles...
Charles: I'm going to tell them you gave me Ais in the back of the classroom.
Me: (with more warning in my voice) Charles...
Charles: I'm going to tell them you gave me Ais on the tabl-
Me: CHARLES! THAT IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR SCHOOL!

I just have to laugh sometimes.

On the supplies front, I want to send aa HUGE thank-you to everyone who read or reposted my last entry. I've been getting supplies from ALL over the country, and I plan to post a big map in my classroom to show the kids where our donations have come from. This should reinforce their geography knowledge and map skills while also being a daily reminder that other people care about their lives and futures. Thank you all so much!
