Today was wonderful. I went to the LA Times Festival of Books at UCLA with one of my professors from last semester. We went to three panels and saw Amy Goodman, Tom Hayden, Howard Fineman, Arianna Huffington, Eric Alterman and Maxine Hong Kingston (among others). We had a great Indian dinner in Westwood, and then we went to a gothic church to see Amy and David Goodman speak about their new book. It was all really fun, I feel like she is more like my friend than my professor (or former professor if you want to get technical).
While listening to Maxine Kingston, I became inspired to start writing my memoirs (seriously). She talked about wanting to write the "whimper", and I feel like lately I've had the desire to do that in a way. The idea behind this for me is to get things out of my head, free myself through my writing, and clear any general writer's block. I don't plan on sharing any of it with anyone, at least not for a very long time. It's very personal and I think it will be therapeutic. I'm seeing the writing as being nonlinear and disjointed, and I'm taking comfort in that.
