I do remember sunmmer of my german soldier, but mostly, I think, the ending? In my head, I don't like it, but I don't remember it.

Also, can I suggest, if you need some fantasy sports, try fantasy basketball? It's surprisingly easy to enjoy. And, apparently, to succeed in!

in the end, she had to go to juvie for a while, and the family maid (who was the ONLY PERSON WHO EVER LOVED HER, WEEP) brought her fried chicken and hush puppies. that's what i remember. also, there was a sequel where she ran off to france!

i really felt like i'd ACCOMPLISHED something, you know?

Man, WORD on this entire thing. Because this morning I realized while trying to tell my coworkers the epic tale of my yesterday that really all I'd done was walk outside, shovel out the car, drive around the block twice, and then take a friend to the airport. Except it all felt MUCH BIGGER, and then I realized that actually I needed J.R.R. Tolkien to tell the story of my Trip to Free the Car in order to give it its full weight.

I do remember Summer of my German Soldier. Weird book, and I'm sure at the time I didn't understand how weird. But just now I went to remind myself of it and read an Amazon review which stated:

I would not recommend this book to anyone who likes exciting books because, most of the book was about Patty's depressing life and how her parents hated her. However I think that an older audience might like this book because, they may be able to relate to the hard times Patty had. Also they may remember how people judged other people by the color of their skin. This book had some very diverse issues.

Hee. Remember back when people judged other people by the colour of their skin. Also, the hard times?

that's the other thing i forgot, is how her parents really REALLY hated her, in a way that should have been a lot more disturbing in a book meant for children.

Heeeeeeeeeeee, Christian. That is... completely accurate. What was with Jack carrying him around in baskets all the time in that one episode?

Steven cracked me UP, I wish he had been better so he could've stuck around. Steeeeven, who will be dryly sarcastic now?

I have to admit, I adored Summer of My German Soldier when I was a kid, but yes, in retrospect it was pretty fucked up. For some reason, the thing I remember most vividly was that the main character was going through the dictionary sytematically and learning new words every day.

hah, i forgot about that part! it's weird how weird things stick out vividly from kids books -- the part from that book i vividly remember is when the housekeeper brought her fried chicken with hush puppies in juvie.
