recently, i:
a. ran into someone i went to undergrad with on the MIT campus, which is notable because i live in massachusetts and i went to school in oregon. it was weird, and i couldn't remember her name, but a couple hours later i remembered that one time i sat in my dorm lounge with this guy i barely knew, who told me all about how he was pretty sure he was wasting the best years of his life being unrequitedly in love with her, but he didn't know what else to do. all romantic problems at that school seemed to involve guys who were fairly conservative trying to date girls who were fairly liberal, and the girls angsting about whether or not this was a bad idea and the guys not really caring that they were trying to sleep with girls with diametrically opposed views on abortion. or, those were the romantic problems that seemed to plague straight people. my biggest problem was that there was exactly one other lesbian in my year and i hit it with her six weeks into my first semester, so. anyway, we exchanged e-mail addresses, but i think i put hers through the wash.
b. saw volver and you should see it, too, especially if you like flan, telenovelas, and penelope cruz in a padded push-up bra. especially the last one. especially.
c. watched battlestar, secretly enjoyed all the things everyone else seriously (and, rightfully, even) hated. but, really, the best part was when adama channeled journey, claiming that the road a battlestar ain't no isn't any place to raise a family.
d. threw a belated housewarming/feliz tuberculosis party, allowed various social circles ven diagram themselves in curious ways, drank a lot, paid for it later. oh god, did i pay for it later. but the parts i remember were fun, and the parts other people told me about sounded good, too.
e. remembered, in my hungover state, while watching prisoner of azkaban on abc family because we thought there was going to be an order of the phoenix preview, that the harry potter franchise still existed, and at one point there was some true love and it took place in a shack. for about three hours, i was totally going to jump back on the train, and i read a couple remus/sirius stories that had, with oddly-timed appropriateness, showed up in my del.icio.us inbox, but then i remembered that all roads lead to the linen closet where you go when jk rowling thinks you're dead and your boyfriend gets involved with someone who supposedly exemplifies girl power but gets bad at her job when she has romantic problems, so then i decided i should probably just go to bed.
