We very nearly had a head-on collusion at 4:30am while driving north bound on Parmer just after crossing the intersection of FM 1431. (For those not familiar with the area or the roads this is an intersection involving two - 3 lane wide in each direction high-speed 60mph roads). A silver Infiniti was on the wrong side of the road and speeding towards us. Some evasive maneuvers (Pulling to the side of the road - thank goodness for wide shoulders) managed to get us out of the way. S. called 911 while I turned the mini-van around to see if we could get the license plate of what was very clearly a very drunk driver. The driver then continued to meaner around Cedar Park/Austin while driving South on Parmer at 40 MPH while we tailed the drunk while talking to 911. This involved being switched between Cedar Park, than Austin, then back to Cedar Park, and then back to Austin police as the inebriated driver changed lanes, made U-turns, and tried to shake our black shadow. Finally when the driver made an illegal U-turn on Parmer on the bridge over 620 did we break off our not so covert tailing (Both on the advice of dispatch and on my own belief that the chase was starting to get too risky). This is Texas and what are two unarmed and untrained civilians going to do against some drunk idiot?
The stress of nearly having a high speed head-on collusion combined with a 6 mile pursuit left me with a bit of the shakes and feeling drained and shaky. Unfortunately the police did not appear to be anywhere near by and our drunk fool appears to have gotten away with being a road menace.
Needless say we did not get home until after 5:00am and we did not go to sleep to close to sun-rise. S. is still asleep and I am not sure how many of today's planned activities we are going to make.
