http://castlevania.wikia.com/wiki/Alucard Personality:
At a glance, Alucard is an enigmatic character. 'Not quite human,' and mysterious in his bearing. He is terse, honorable, and tends to make quick and steadfast decisions. Though he once served at the side of his father, Dracula, as an agent of evil, he is now set against the destruction of humankind. He protects and defends them despite the price (he must repeatedly kill Dracula.) While his hand is steady in this, his mind is tormented by his past and dual nature. He projects an aura of cold strength for that reason, and also to keep humans at arm's length from the darker side of his nature.
In manner, Alucard is a gentleman (albeit a bit of a standoffish one.) He can hold an eloquent direct conversation easily enough, but when matters stray into the personal or small talk, he can become rather awkward or fall silent entirely. He prefers to keep his personal life from humans. In his year with Maria, he has begun to take interactions more easily, but he remains uncomfortable with discussing his past. This is mostly due to his guilt over his actions, when he was allied at Dracula's side. With foes, he is usually quick in dispatching them, and generally merciless with allies of his Father. He tends to be easier (and speak more) when he is speaking to himself. He does have a wry sense of humor that surfaces on occasion.
Alucard is intelligent, but not infallible. He tends to think in a straightforward manner toward his enemies and situations. Thus, he doesn't always catch their sneakier tricks (Shaft controlling Richter, for example) right away. He takes situations in and attempts to understand and think through their appearance, rather than imagine they might be something else entirely. He does tend to be quite introspective even with certain enemies. However, he is willing to fight them despite personal reservations.
His dual nature is a great struggle within him. Each time he makes a choice (to serve at his father's side, to honor his mother's love for humanity,) he suffers for it in and also causes suffering. As one of Dracula's number, he once fought against and tormented humans. As a defender of humans, he must kill his Father (whom he obviously cares for) over and over. As well as his father's allies, whom were once his as well. He believes that his blood is cursed. The struggle between the man and the vampire within him often leaves him weary and haunted. He believes he can best serve humanity by disappearing from it entirely. Yet, he remains among them for his purpose and (more hesitantly) for the friendship of Maria and Richter.
When Alucard does permit himself to form attachments, they are strong bonds and he will care for those few people deeply, no matter how many years have passed. One sees this in his love and loyalty for his mother, as well as his care for his old friend Lyudmil (in Nocturne of Recollection.) His love for Dracula can also be seen beneath his opposition to him. His core kind nature is yet another reason he is hesitant to form new bonds. Whether because of him or not, he knows that human friends will suffer and die in time. A human's heart in an immortal body is a painful curse to bear.
What your character can offer: Alucard is a dhampir. Half-human, half vampire. He's skilled in black magic and transformation magic. In particular, he can transform into a bat, wolf, and mist. His spells can drain blood or soul energy from his targets. As well, he can summon servant familiars to help him fight (a fairy, a sword, a ghost, a bat, and an imp.) He also has certain magics particular to certain weapons he carries. He is also an adept swordsman, particularly with one handed swords. He is intelligent, quick, and strong-- all traits he puts to use in defending innocents from vampire kind, or other demons.
What items will they be bringing with them? His family heirloom: the Alucard sword. Alucard shield and Alucard mail, Dragon Helm, Twilight Cloak, and a necklace called 'necklace of J.' This is his gear of choice in Symphony of the Night. Obviously, the magical aspects of these will not work when he is chipped.
Third-Person Sample:
Alucard crept soundlessly over dry leaves. He intended to walk far this night, deep along the forest paths and away from his current home, and from Maria. Yet, he could not eclipse the pace of his own thoughts. He ghosted through the bracken with preternatural speed. Still, his troubles chased him. In the light of the full moon, he deeply wished to return to the earth. To sleep away the centuries until perhaps he was needed again, as he once had done.
In daylight he would banish these impulses. Maria's presence and practicality dictated a second purpose to his life. He had lived this way for an entire year. How long until the desire to sleep left him? Perhaps never, he thought.
Alucard gazed into the open eye of the moon. It pierced the branches and bathed his aristocratic features in a latticework of light. Light and shadow. As he stared, he murmured: "Do I truly belong among humans?"
A female scream shattered the night and his thoughts. He whipped toward the sound and drew his sword-- what could cause that, in the dead of night here? He sped through the trees until the twisted branches blurred before his eyes. Soon, he came upon two figures. He slowed as he saw them through the trees. One male and one female. Best not to give himself away until he knew what he saw.
"...get away from me, please!" The female (a simple town girl) was brandishing a cross. Alucard's hand tightened around his sword hilt. That was already a bad sign.
The male took a jaunty step toward her. He seemed in no hurry. Even in the moonlight, his eyes were too bright, his flesh too pale. His fine clothing stained with odd dark blotches. "A girl walking alone at night... you make too fine a prey for me to ignore!" He took another (almost drunken) step, and his white teeth were flashing now, too sharp.
...and then Alucard shot from between the trees, placing himself between the male vampire and the girl. He hefted his sword and pointed it straight at the vampire's throat. "The same might be said of you! I will not allow your kind to hunt the humans here!"
"Oooh? And who are you to interrupt my--" The vampire's words fell from his lips and his eyes went wide. "The smell of your blood! You are the son of Dracula... that traitor!" And yet he spoke the words with fear. "I am sure your heroic words are lies... you want her for yourself, I've no doubt!" He backed up. One pace. Two. Then turned and fled through the trees, hissing with dismay.
He is certainly not taking his time now, Alucard thought. He made to go after him, but was stopped by the girl's voice.
"Wait...good sir, there may be others here. W-will you escort me back to the village?"
Alucard sheathed his sword in one impatient movement. Likely the vampire would flee far from here, but he would surely feast on other humans where he found them. "If you wish. However, you should take more care not to travel alone!"
When he turned toward her, he saw the fear in her eyes. She was trying hard to conceal it-- but she had also heard what the vampire said. What he had named him. The son of Dracula, cursed to bear vampiric and human heritage in one body. Her fear struck a discordant note deep inside him. He could feel his blood burning. For a moment, her eyes were not a gentle window to the her soul, but wet tissue with a dark, sweet reward behind it. He could taste it, as he once tasted it long nights ago. Many nights...
No! He turned away, shaken by the nature of his own desire. He would never give into it, never again. And yet it apalled him like no other. When he spoke, his voice was hoarse, barely human in its sound. "If you will lead the way, my lady. I will see you back to your town."
"Thank you," the girl said, more relief in her voice than fear now. "...I think he was wrong about you. What he said. You seem very kind."
"..........." Alucard shook his head. Such was the way of humans, trusting even when their weakness faced danger. Her words had all but dispelled his preternatural desire. He felt like himself now, and he could almost thank her for that. "Let us go. The night may conceal other dangers."
With that, the two of them headed out of the night.
First-Person Sample:
If this place is a dream... it is a dream of the damned. The soul of this city seems long since departed. I expect demons to be lurking in these strange buildings. Watching me, perhaps...
And yet I cannot sense evil here. I can see only with my eyes, as a human might. Have I somehow become human? ... No. My blood still bears the curse of my line. I can feel it. I am afflicted only with the weaknesses of humanity. How can this be?
I must tread carefully. If this world is not the doing of my Father, or his allies, I will be surprised. Though it may be any enemy of mine. My sword, at least, will serve me regardless of my weakness.
...If I am lucky, Maria has not followed me to this cursed place.
