So, my Breadman bread maker arrived today, and I'm currently waiting (somewhat) patiently for my first loaf to finish. Review shall be pending.
On the garden front, I'm still pissed at the fucker that tore up my garden, but on a good note one of the strawberries already has some new growth on it. I'm pretty sure the cabbages are a loss, but the pepper stalk has done well in water, and I planted it in dirt this evening to see if I can get it to root like the broken tomato plant.
(Said plant - now plants - are doing well. The mini stalk/root ball has grown enough and leafed out enough to warrant repotting this evening. Yay!)
Also, tonight I started weeding through the forest of lettuce-babies. Lisbeth claims I have a green thumb, but my idea of 'sowing seeds' is: "Oh look, seeds! Oh look, soil!" Take a pinch of seeds and a handful of soil, stir well, pat flat, add water and wait to see what happens. Is it any wonder I was shocked to actually get live plants?
The one speck of nigh-invisible green in the 1st quarter is foxglove. The brave little soldiers in the 2nd are walla walla onions (which now two days later are 2-3 times the height), and the forest of grass in the 3rd are my lettuce babies. The packet said lettuce seeds are notoriously hard to germinate, even in warm weather. So naturally they tried to take over my kitchen after 4 days in dirt.
I lost 5 sprouts due to clumsiness, but have 20 (twenty!!) repotted in deeper soil. Seriously, I touched roughly 1.5 square inches. Methinks I may have tossed a few too many seeds in one little patch of soil. I'm still trying to get over how these thin, thin waif-like stalks become my proud heads of lettuce. (The onions, however, no kidding, look like mini onions, only bent in half.)
All in all, I won't be satisfied until I can replace my stock, but the from scratch stuff is coming along just fine.
Bread almost finished... hungry.
