Aliens and other things

Been watching X-Files from the beginning (ironically, not because of the movie...)

I'm about 3/4 of the way through the 3rd season and I'd honestly forgotten how much I loved this show. Which means I'm going to be insanely devastated all over again when the 8th and 9th seasons roll around because honestly? Before rewatching all these most excellent episodes I got a bad taste in my mouth whenever I thought 'X-Files' because I was so bitter over Chris Carter's fuck you all to the fans. I can barely even remember the why's, just that the endings sucked considering the rest of the series.

Man, I was a die-hard. I still have, somewhere, the original-original airing of the pilot on VHS. Not the airing they say was aired in September, but the original one that aired about 3-4 months prior to the rest of the series. The one the whet the appetites of us cultists. I'd completely forgotten why I loved the show so much. It's still pretty fresh considering it was (omg) 15-16 years ago.

All this having been said, I am highly entertained by this interview with Edgar Mitchell:

Seriously, do I think that 'aliens' exist? I think that my universe is not nearly as small as other people's and possibility should never be discounted. (That's a yes, I think other life, in some form, in the whole big f-ing universe exists.)

Mitchell's statement on people's reactions (Ho-hum, so what's new?) kills me. Because I can totally see Americans and Brits reacting that way. (See the Trafalgar Square freeze - seriously, could have been out of Dr. Who and maybe 4 people looked cross-eyed during the whole 5 minutes.)

Will I be surprised if there ever is a governmental (any government) disclosure on the existence of and/or visitation by aliens? Only so much in that it was kept secret for however long it might be/have been. Well, that and the 'no seriously, why would you visit? I mean seriously, humans?' guttural reaction I tend to harbor.

People's reactions to aliens have been getting better over the years. It's no longer just Twilight Zone and Alien and X-Files and Independence Day. ET still scares gobs of kids (never got that) but we've got Alien Nation and Star Trek and Stargate and people used to seeing random blue/green/yellow/furry people walking down the street to the nearest convention and barely blinking.

I think human nature is probably more scary for the individual person. Well, that and religion.
