This week I visited the local Ohio Liscense  bureau and surrendered my drivers license. I applied for an official state photo ID card. I will get it in the mail. I have not driven in probably six months. Max and all of my close friends have agreed and insisted that this be done.

As for me? I fully agree. My cognitive skills have diminished to the point that I don't trust myself to drive. I am at peace with this. A number of my friends have offered their help and have proved good to their word.

I am 75 years old now. I can vividly remember the day many years ago. My mother was living with my older sister at that time. She was 74 years old and still had her own car. The three of us talked about the issue of her continued driving. In the end, I left with her keys and the car. It was such hard thing to do that I cried all the way home.

As a passenger now I see things that I never worried about as a driver. There are so many more cars on the road and it is very problematic. Max only drives a little now. In the daytime and on familiar roads.

By the way. About a year and a half ago, I had an accident about a mile away from home. I didn't know it happened until I was startled by the moment of impact. Now, THAT, will get your attention!
