Chellsie doesn't reciprocate

“Oh.”

This wasn’t the response Alicia had been hoping for. She sighed and her shoulders drooped.

“I’m sorry, Leesh,” said Chellsie. “Really I am, but…”

“S’okay,” Alicia whispered. “I get it.”

Chellsie watched tears roll down her friend’s face. She felt horrible, and she knew that Alicia was the sort of person to drown her sorrows if not distracted. She fished around for a suggestion of a way for the other girl to keep her mind off things.

“Leesh, I think you need something to distract yourself with. Keep your mind off… everything,” Chellsie suggested gently, not wanting to hurt her friend more than she already was.

Chellsie was still talking, but Alicia was only half paying attention. By “everything”, you mean you. Keep my mind off YOU. But Chells, you have to understand that I will never be able to keep my mind off you.
