I hate the NewU. I like the people and everything, but no one understands what it's like to walk in and to have someone asking you to help them with something or do something literally every 5 minutes. It wears on you a lot after awhile, especially when you know walking in things are going to be bad. It doesn't help when Carol takes you aside and says to you very seriously that she sold 20,000+ dollars of advertising and if anything goes wrong it's your fault so make-sure-nothing-goes-wrong-or-else-that's-it. Like I need more stress. Like I already know that we're going live without enough training, that none of the editors have a clue on Indesign and are going to make a mess of things that Michelle, Diana nad I will have to clear out. Nobody pays attention when you fix their computer and talk them through the fact that, at the moment, please just quit Extensis then launch Indesign, then launch extensis again when Indesign prompts you for the font database. So instead I get deluged with people telling me that there computer is not working, when really, it's just that which is annoying to say the least. Same thing goes for Carol but times 10. She received a .zip file the other day and wrote an email saying "it's not working why not?" so I decompress it for her on the server and then send it back, telling her I'll fix her decompression software during the weekend. Today I went in and found out her decompression software works just fine, she just didn't know where the decompressed file was being saved (Her desktop.) She has so many files on her desktop that she didn't notice that there are 14 copies of the same decompressed file on her desktop because she just kept clicking "Open" on Entourage, expecting it to open. Well it opens, you can watch Stuffit Expander launch and then it reads "Saving File to Desktop" with a taskbar. I wish people would just take the time out to know things a little bit better. I understand it's a new and really weird system we have going here, but it doesn't help when people sit down and start saying "I hate Macs. They suck so much, they don't even run Windows (They Do, Now), and I don't like how the control button right clicks instead of doing what control SHOULD do (They have two button mice), I wish we had bought windows for the upgrade."

I'm sorry. But you're insulting a 30 thousand dollar investment that I've worked on for three months, and I apologize if there's bugs now, I'm working on them, but I hate itw hen people tell me that what I just made SUCKS. I mean, it really sucks for me when there complaint is "How do I reprogram my keyboard so that the Apple Key is the Control Key because it's stupid that it's the Apple Key." And then when someone else comes around and uses the Apple key and don't get anything they say "This Mac sucks, look the Apple key doesn't work."

And then there's the person who didn't make her account with me (I made a point to ask all the editors to please come in and see me so I can make their accounts-- the two people who didn't come in didn't have accounts and then they didn't have accounts and that's not particularly my fault that they didn't come to any of the Sundays to work) so she worked as Ben Ritter identity for awhile and then all her documents had the wrong permissions... oye ve... but that's not her fault that she worked as Ben, honestly-- she was just trying to work which I understand. I just wish she had come into work like she was supposed to and gotten that account.

Let's not even get into the Filemaker database.

God I hate my job.
