2013/12/30-31 J: TSUTAYA O-East; Tokyo, JP

Jan 20, 2014 16:10

new venue name -_-;
As usual, the year ended w/ 2 J shows, the latter being an overnight countdown concert. These were also our first shows at the recently-renamed/cobranded "TSUTAYA O-*" venues (previously Shibuya O-*). Not sure how I feel about that, esp. since we're so used to them. Then again, when we came here 渋谷公会堂 was already CC Lemon Hall, and that didn't seem to bother me much, and it almost seems weird now that it's been renamed back again. But anyway. Enough about the stupid venue name. :P

The first day was filled with video cameras, which J announced would be for the upcoming Crazy Crazy IV release in March. They must've made him nervous, though, since I noticed a couple minor mistakes, and something was off w/ CB's guitar during BURN OUT, which he eventually gave up & swapped out for a Flying V (first time I can remember seeing him playing something other than an LP). I didn't notice it, but apparently J stepped on CB's switch, turning the sound off before he switched them out- I guess he didn't want bad notes getting onto the DVD, lol (although I can't imagine them not having everything multi-tracked & being able to edit it out, but oh well)...

The 2nd night was the final show of the 10 Days event, which meant that everyone who went to all 10 & had all the wristbands from the other 9 shows (not that anyone actually checked those) got to get their last wristband from J himself. Since we'd just been on the FC PYRO trip the week before, this wasn't quite as big a deal as it would've been otherwise, but was still pretty cool, although being rushed through assembly-line style with about 5-10 seconds per person isn't exactly "quality time", but then again it's the most they can reasonably do w/ that many people at an event like that. So that was done in the evening, after which we all stayed inside until the end so J could make another short "thank you" speech before we were all kicked back outside for a few hours until the show itself started. Hit the nearby Outback for dinner before heading back, managing to snag one of the last few open tables before last order.

Notable moments in the 2nd show were Gocchin's guitar strap falling off, him kneeling down to play while his tech tried to tape it back on, only to have it fall off again & have to swap guitars. And on Go Charge, no less- lol, as if tape would've stayed on. XD Also, in a somewhat rare move, J actually mentioned LUNA SEA by name (usually if he mentions anything related it's unspoken, or with a "that" or "them"), & talked a bit about the album recording. And, once again, they started up LIE-LIE-LIE, only to cut it off partway through to do the countdown. :P Dammit J, if you're gonna play a song on purpose just to cut it off, at least make it a song that you actually play regularly! lolz.

After the break, Scott came out & said "Let's have a drink afterwards. Everybody!" to which J asked "Can you buy.. drink for us?", & Scott just turned his (empty) pockets inside out & shrugged. heh. J promised that since 2014 ends in "14" (his lucky/favorite/special/whatever number), that "next year'll be great. No, not next year, THIS year!"

Planned on staying out just long enough for Shibuya station to open back up again (several blocks around it were closed off until ~2am to avoid ridiculous crowding for the countdown & afterward), but our "just a couple drinks" turned into several hours at the izakaya w/ other PYROs until we finally left. And thus endeth 2013!
