J - 2010/08/12 & 14

Aug 16, 2010 01:59

OK, since I just spent the whole day rewriting a post that got munched the day before, this one'll be fairly short.

Thursday was the 2nd of 2 J shows, the first of which we missed due to TSP stupidly scheduling their 2 shows w/ an overlap. :P" Damn you for making us choose! And apparently we missed a few songs from Wed. that haven't been played in a while, so Girl was all complainy about that for a while. -_-; But anyway. Thursday was:
  1. Reckless
  2. Final Call
  3. I Don't Know
  4. Deep End
  5. Vida Rosa
  6. Fly Away
  7. Crush Course
  8. Sixteen
  9. (drum solo)
  10. Pyromania
  11. Sun Set
  12. Good Night
  13. No Time To Lose
  14. But You Said I'm Useless
  15. Nowhere
  16. Die For You
  17. (Happy Birthday to J)
  18. So High
  19. Evoke The World
  20. My Way [Paul Anka/Frank Sinatra/Sid Vicious]
After the break, he came out with 2 t-shirts on, took off the top one & threw it into the crowd to reveal a blue Superman shirt, only with a P instead of an S. PYROMAN? LOL. CBGB came out in the WUMF camouflage apron. Since this was the Big 40th Birthday, he said something about how he never thought he'd be alive at this age, but that he'll be up there playing until he's dead. They shone the lights up to the balcony, where they revealed a giant banner that everyone had written on before the show (except us, since we were tired & Girl was sick T_T;), and CB was like "But- I'm in an apron! Look at me!" Heh. As usual, there was cake, which he chopped up with his hand & flung into the crowd, then pointed to a bunch of people saying "You've got whipped cream in your hair!". Of course, before doing so, he apologized to everyone for doing the same thing every year, & to the venue for making a mess... heh. Scott grabbed a couple of strawberries & held them up to his nipples before laughing & tossing them into the crowd. Notable banter included something about クソ暑い夏にクソ熱くなるためにクソ盛り上がって or something like that... He said it multiple times, & screwed it up one of them & had to go "Wait..." & re-say it slower a couple more times again... lol

Friday was B-T Night, but since I was so tired & had so much to write, I ended up leaving on last train, which means I only played one song (ミウ)... d'oh. Oh well. I'd have skipped it altogether had I not forgotten my B-T pick case last time & told them I'd pick it up this time... Not that they wouldn't have held it for me an extra month, but... oh well. Came home & wrote up my article for the 2 TSP shows for HU, which took me 'til nearly 6am. o_O;

Saturday was Club Pyro- basically a DJ event, w/ J & the band, and a couple guests playing music at LOFT. They had "special cocktails" made up w/ song titles as their names, which, of course, were at a different drink counter than the one we first lined up in, and then didn't accept the drink tickets they fucking forced us to buy on our way in. 9_9. Seriously, WTF? Whatever. Got a couple PYROMAN shirts, since they were selling those there (along w/ decorated fake nails- that was it). First up were DJ T2O & 2 FC Pyro members- missed the first couple DJs as we were wandering around the place, checking things out, getting the shirts & some drinks. The chick we saw did a bunch of J/LS-related stuff - Iconoclasm (J's cover), '.....', In Future, D.O.D., etc.

For J's first set, he played:
  1. Puddle of Mudd - Away From Me
  2. Backyard Babies - Payback
  3. Lady Gaga - Just Dance
  4. Silversun Pickups - Panic Switch
  5. Soulwax - Compute (Original Mix)
  6. ??? (at this point, the free version of Shazam cut me off, so I had to DL the paid version) -_-;
GTN (Gocchin)'s set included (*may include other songs, since Shazam doesn't leave any placeholders when you give it something it can't recognize):
  • The Qemists - Stompbox
  • Tortoise - Prepare Your Coffin
  • XTC - Living Through Another Cuba
  • U.S.E. - Open Your Eyes
  • Phoenix - Too Young
  • コーネリアス - Tsunami
Scott brought out a standing lamp w/ a blue light bulb, which he bent around, turned on & off, & moved around a few times in between throwing out the evil hands, holding up his beer, asking for more beer, shouting "WOOO!", bringing out a single cymbal & hitting it, holding it out over the crowd for people to hit, & coming out to hi-5 people (got me a hand grab myself! ^_^):
  • Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Berlin
  • Soulwax - Miserable Girl
  • Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Took Out A Loan
  • Soulwax - Yyy / Nnn
  • Klaxons - Golden Skans
  • ?
  • Soulwax - Teachers
CBGB was a bit more laid back, & mumbled very quietly into the mic- the only words I could manage to make out were when he mentioned switching to some female vocalists for a while after Pearl Jam. More songs, since he didn't play them all the way through:
  • Cheap Trick - Surrender
  • Pearl Jam - Brain of J. (haha, get it? >_<;)
  • Des'ree - Life
  • Janis Joplin - Move Over
  • Lisa Loeb - I Do
  • Kandi - Just So You Know
  • ?
  • Jamiroquai - Just Another Story
  • P!nk - Catch Me While I'm Sleeping
  • P!nk - Try Too Hard
After that, J came out & did a surprise acoustic song w/ Gocchin (island) before the guest DJs came out.

Guest DJs were Masuda, a writer, who put on Iconoclasm (B-T 殺シ version), D'erlanger La Vie En Rose, TONIGHT, Rocket Dive, & an instrumental Welcome to the Jungle (which he sang along to lol) - apparently this theme was "Made In Japan, and stuff J listened to as a kid", & MON, who does some kind of Red Shoes thingy (which is nearly impossible to google, since all that comes up are, shock, shit about actual red shoes, and for some fucking reason Firefox just up & decided not to allow me to type in Japanese a bit ago... WTF COMPUTER??!) and did some RHCP (Around The World), Slash, White Stripes, & Ramones. The other members were occasionally seen behind the stacks at the side of the stage, rockin' out.

By that point, it was around quarter to 5, and it was supposed to end at 5, and J was supposed to have another 30m set... well, obviously both of those couldn't happen (well, he did go a little over...). So his last set was:
  • Sex Pistols - Bodies
  • Iron Maiden - Prowler
  • Mötley Crüe - Too Young To Fall In Love
  • Sex Pistols - My Way
The last song was pre-announced with stuff like "If I'm gonna play something, it's gotta be this- if it weren't for this guy, I might never have picked up a bass..." etc. Apparently I'd never heard their version of it before, but now it makes sense why I've heard J cover it a few times, almost exactly the same way (except for the intro part, maybe). Of course, I can't understand J's Engrish singing, so who knows if the lyrics are the original Anka/Sinatra version or Sid's... *shrug* Oh well. Apparently there was even more rockin' out on the side of the stage by the other members & guests, and a lot of face-making & trying to make J laugh (Girl saw a lot more, since she was further left & could see around the speakers)...

It's 2am 2:30 (damn editing T_T;). Bedtime.

j, concerts
