Vainglorious is like one of my favourite words. +80 bonus points! I quite like the internal rhyme and how it manages to be both matter-of-factness and pretty. the convo with the breeze is awesome. :D
I've always said "vain+glorious", but now I'm curious, how would you say the 'ng' sound? I've tried saying it different ways, but can only get that one conceivable reading.
OH OH OH HORACE :D That's from his Odes. He's not my favourite Roman poet, but this one is a good one (and his most famous):
Ode I-XI
Don't you ask, Leuconoe-- the gods do not wish it to be known-- what end they have given to me or to you, and don't meddle with Babylonian horoscopes. How much better to accept whatever comes, whether Jupiter gives us other winters or whether this is our last
now wearying out the Tyrrhenian sea on the pumice stones opposing it. Be wise, strain the wine and cut back long hope into a small space. Even as we speak, envious time flies past. Harvest the day and leave as little as possible for tomorrow.
Wow that one's quite beautiful actually... who is Leuconoe, and how do you pronounce his/her name? :)
The alternate 'ng' pronunciation seems natural if I say it fast. Imagine connecting 'vain' and 'glorious' with the same sound as the NG in aNGle. However dictionary.com says it's just 'vain+glorious'.
That sounds awesome, we must go! We're there for the weekend of the 16th/17th, getting in on Friday and leaving Monday. So not too long :( What kind of food are we talking? :)

I love the rhyming and rhythm of it.
The conversation between the "I" and the breeze.
I need to think on this "break me" part though.
:)
Looking forward to the Firefly fic, in principle. I will get around to watching the show/movie at some point so I actually understand your story.

Mwaha. The construction "think on" reminds me of Firefly.
As do... many things..

About that--since it's your fav word--do you pronounce it 'vaing-glorious' with the 'ng' sound, or just 'vain-glorious'?
Posting tomorrow, I swears. And on that note, I came across this on quotationspage.com:
Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero. -Horace
