It is an appropriate question, Hero--and one that unfortunately, I do not have an answer to. Up until the moment you had arrived, I had never crossed paths with the possibility.
[It does bring her some food for thought. To think Link would forget her... It meant that Jak could too. If he manages to ever leave. It leaves the princess a little solemn--if missing Anri doesn't.]
[He hasn't forgot her at all - Link could never forget her. But if she was thinking about forgetting the events on the boat, then yes.]
Well, think about it, Princess. People say that the me that was here before was from before we defeated Ganondorf... the adult me. But that he left only a month or so ago... don't you think that's strange?
I was under the impression that he had been returned to his rightful time. I cannot deny that it is... a very odd... feeling for me to have to be faced with you after having seen him. The rest of this world can change and the people in it, yet I always seem the same. It makes me feel as though I am lost within this time and everything is... simply on pause for me.
[She taps her frog absentmindedly, wondering what in the world it's going to be good for. She'll have to ask the crew about it later, most likely around the time she writes to Captain Redd.]
[He breathes a laugh at that. Link supposes Zelda couldn't possibly imagine how warped time feels for him, though, so he can't fairly blame her.]
That's just the thing, though... if he was sent back. That was a month ago. But I'm here again now, and the time that's lapsed for me since then... well, it's been much longer then a month.
[She doesn't seem to understand what he's saying.]
...Are you implying that it is not plausible, Hero? It has only been a month between his departure and your arrival. Do you believe somehow that you are affecting his own existence? Or are you somehow under the belief that perhaps any feelings he may have experienced may pass onto you, since... technically anything he encountered is the same as what you have encountered?
[Jeez. Does she even make any sense anymore? When Zelda's upset, she can hardly speak straight. At least, not the kind of straight people would understand.]
It's not plausible if we try to understand it normally... I don't mean to suppose anything about effecting him, or something like that. Or me being affected by him, either. All these people who say they were my friends, they're just strangers to me.
[This definitely bothers him. He knows exactly how it feels for friends to not remember him; it was something that was a given in his struggle against Skull Kid.]
Just - think of it this way. He was brought here, several months ago from what I can gather, from that time. And then, you were... but from a different time, that doesn't match. That doesn't make any sense, right?
Me, too. I... the old me, left a month ago. And now I'm back, I suppose. But longer than a month has passed between that me, and the me now. It's probably been a few years since then for me, not a month. You know?
The Captain must be affiliated with Nayru to have such great power over time... wouldn't he?
This is not Hyrule. Time is not required to follow whatever line Hyrule has it set at, whether it be for you, for the previous you, for me, or for any other future person who would come from Hyrule.
[And Zelda has always thought she over analyzed. She doesn't understand why Link is even doing this. Zelda might have done so upon her arrival, but she also feels like she has a few things worth holding onto, so making sense of it all has completely flown the coop and now she'd rather focus on her priorities.]The Captain--a great man--has abilities far greater than yours or mine. The man is well along the way to becoming a god, if he is not one already. I can well understand your supposed confusion, but I do not think that any number of well-written logical explanations are truly going to explain this situation
( ... )
[Just hearing him makes her feel guilty. She's being too harsh on him. Just because she has her own thoughts doesn't mean she needs to force them onto him. Has she grown so hardened in her time away? Is it because it's Link?]
...Oh... Please. I apologize. I did not mean to upset you. You have every right to be as curious as you need to be. It does not matter how I may or may not view things. Your eyes are your own, Link. You should seek out whatever it is you wish to seek out.
No... no, you're right, Princess. We're prisoners of this captain. That's what we are, even if you seem to like him. Have you talked to him before, or something?
If he's that powerful, and can bring us here the way he did... there's no point trying to understand that, is there? We probably can't. Is it as impossible as understanding the actions of the Goddesses?
[Link's resigned himself to carrying out every task the Goddesses give him, without question, happy to serve them. Especially if it's a task like protecting Zelda. But his voice does get a little softer at the end there.]
....E-Either way, it's pretty obvious that many timelines seem to intersect here. It's as you said, not all places run on the same wavelengths of time.
I should probably expect this sort of thing by now, ehehe.
[Zelda thinks about the letter she received from Captain Redd. She can't tell anyone about that. She can't tell anyone what he told her. In a way, she feels like she'd need to take it to her grave. It's her burden to bear--like many others--and no one else's.
In consequence... She's sorry, Link, but she'll have to evade your question. Forgive her.]
I cannot say I full understand his actions, no. As opposed to our own positions, however, I do not believe that it was destiny for me to come here. I feel more as though fate has been interrupted and intentionally. Not by the goddesses, but by the captain.
I... truly hope the adjustment will not be too difficult for you. I wish to help you in any way I can.
[Fate... interrupted. That's a heavy claim for her to make. It means the Captain is at least as powerful as the Goddesses, maybe more. They're not meant to be here, then? Link's not sure how he feels about that possibility.
Well, that's a conversation for later, maybe.]
You're here, Princess... that's enough. It made me really happy just seeing you again.
[It does bring her some food for thought. To think Link would forget her... It meant that Jak could too. If he manages to ever leave. It leaves the princess a little solemn--if missing Anri doesn't.]

Urgh, it's hard... for me to explain.

[He sounds a little dejected and confused, and sighs. But the Princess is probably right. He trusts her Wisdom.]
...you're right. It's pointless for me especially to try to make sense of the forces of time. I'm sorry.

[Zelda smiles. She's feeling touched by his words. Very touched. Very privileged to hear them.]
...Thank you for always being so kind, and for always worrying about me. You honor me with your consideration and generosity.
