Tight Rope/Bouncy Web

Yesterday for the first time in YEARS I played on a tight rope. ...except it wasn't a rope and it wasn't too tight, it was this bouncy slack webbing stuff. All my rope-reflexes did different things on it (and made for falling). You regain control a very different way, going into a bounce, sinking. On a tight rope (though not slack rope which is closer to this) you actually can let the bottom half of your leg wobble and keep the rest of your body centered and let the rope calm down on it's own. On this thing you just get in an oscillating feedback loop if you do that.

At Cirque I got to see how one could use bounce and oscillation to the advantage to do all sorts of different tricks, but I would need a lot of practice before I got there. After a false start or two I managed a couple simple tricks (scales and sitting and things) but it will be a while before I have real control on that thing and can do anything like what I did on rope. Also, gripping it hurts your toes because it's flat and sharp. I wonder how turning on it would be?

Anyway... I intend to go back and play. :)
