Sanitization of Childhood
Early Episodes of Sesame St. Determined unsuitable for "today's child".
Wow.
Okay- there are some things I think need more filtering for kids (especially young ones) like realistic point and shoot games, or violent crime games. But OMG! My views are a little more complex than "shelter them from life". I think that they attempt is to increasingly shelter them from life- not just the harsh bits, but even bruises, and worse making their own choices. What do people think is going to happen when they grow up? They will be poor little lost lambs to the slaughter, that's what.
I put this alongside banning tag because there were "near collisions" and "someone might get hurt", the end of dodgeball, the kids I teach who have never had a skinned knee at 8, and the "don't make him try that, he might fail" attitude. Wow.
