1. trust: to be able to rely or depend on something.
I think that there are different degrees of trust and different relationships have different levels of trust. At the most basic level, in a "civilized" society, I need to trust that the social contract is going to hold and that ultimately my rights will be respected out of enlightened self-interest by others who realize that protecting my rights in fact protects their own.
2. Faith: Belief in something that cannot be proven.
3. devotion: Dedication to a person or principle.
4. patriotism: Love of one's country or the ideals of one's country. Not to be confused with jingoism: "I embrace meaningless jingoistic catch-phrases."
5. religion: Adherence to or belief in a set of principles. A set of beliefs, values, and practices.
6. scientific inquiry: Objective observation of phenomena, development of hypotheses and rigorous testing of hypotheses.
7. atheism: Lack of belief in a deity.
8. belief: Something accepted to be true with or without verfiable evidence.
9. logical process (explain): Inductive or deductive reasoning.
