"you are the silence in between / what i thought and what i said"

Hello, f'list! (Er, if I still have a f'list, which...I wouldn't blame you all a whit for dropping me; "long time, no see" is a massive understatement.) Remember me?

I've been meaning to write this post for, oh, over a year now. First, I was going to tell you all that I got a new job. And then that I would be moving to New York City. And then that I HAD moved to NYC in the space of about a week. And then that I was loving both the job and the city. Then there just seemed to be SO MUCH to say that I didn't even know where to start.

I guess now, after all this time, it's pretty simple, though: Last year was one of big changes. I also got to take a few fantastic trips--to L.A. and San Diego (where I went to ComicCon!), Florida (there's no place like home, and all that), and Calgary. And I made some great friends in my new roommates too--and the dogs we've somehow acquired (a pit bull named Logan and boxer/plothound puppy named Norman, both rescues). Oh, and most recently? I saw my pilots band, Snow Patrol, live in concert last weekend, which was pretty epic in my book.

I'm a little more settled now and hoping to get a little more back into the swing of things here in LJ land (if not as active as I once was, with those massive comments and meta discussions...sigh--those were the days). It helps that one of my new roommates managed to fix my personal computer (I was unable to get the wireless on my computer to work for the longest time, so even before I moved I was on the computer at home less--it was such a pain to have to be tethered to an ethernet cord) and that we've gotten a little more help at work (though I expect I'll still be slammed often enough).

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to follow through with the last project you would have heard about--the e-press my friend She' and I wanted to start, Hot Mess Press. It was considered a conflict of interest with my new job. Honestly, I couldn't handle the extra work right after I started anyway, so I guess it was for the best. It was a really hard decision, though, and I still regret letting my friend down. It sucks too in that, based on news I've seen in the time since, I know we were SO ON TO THINGS. Like fairy tales, and short fiction, and subscription services. Ah, well.

But that's enough RL blah blah. In fandom news, I still love pilots (they'll always be my #1 OTP), but don't read/watch/talk about BSG quite as much as I used to. I do poke my head in at comms like No Takebacks sometimes, however, and I LOVE that the community is still so active. Pilot shippers are quite simply THE BEST. But you knew that.

My other shipping interests these days are THG's Johanna/Gale (you've read poppypickle's newest fic, right? if not, you really, really must), TVD's Caroline/Tyler, The Good Wife's Cary/Kalinda, How I Met Your Mother's Barney/Robin, In Plain Sight's Mary/Marshall, TWW's Josh/Donna (I know the show ended years ago at this point but I only caught up two or so years ago, so it's still newish for me), Ava/Boyd in Justified, and probably more that I'm forgetting. ...What, I'm a serial shipper! Can't help it.

So. There you have it. I am alive and still as long-winded as ever. How are you, dear friends? I have been checking my friends list this whole time but know I've missed a lot just the same. Please do tell me what's up with you!

P.S. Wow, LJ's rich text editor is a zillion times better than it used to be, huh? Not that that's saying much, but still: Nice.

life or something like it, shippy stuff
