Damn medical supply company! >.<
For the past year my insurance has been paying for my CPAP machine, which I don't use any more. Back in January I was going to return it, but they told me to keep it since it was almost paid off. At the time my co-pay was only $5, but they told me that they wouldn't bill me for that any longer. I left the store feeling very satisfied. Meanwhile for the past 6 months, the medical supply company has been billing my insurance company $100/month. So much for "almost paid off". But no worries, it's not coming out of my pocket, right? Wrong! What the supply company failed to realize is that my insurance has a $600 medical fund which goes to pay off deductibles. After that fund is depleted, the next $2000 in medical bills comes 100% out of my pocket. So recently I was shocked to discover that my medical fund was depleted! That was $600 that could have been used to pay off REAL medical bills. I'm pissed!
I just spoke with the supply company, and they told me they would consider the CPAP machine paid off, and would not bill the insurance company any longer. That's nice of them, but it's a little late now. I don't suppose that they can give a refund to the insurance company, so I guess that's the best I can ask for. I'm also mad at myself that I waited this long to look at my medical fund balance. But since I haven't been to the doctor in months, I didn't feel a need to. The insurance company is also to blame since they've gone paperless, so I didn't see any statements to indicate I was being charged for anything.
