I love my netbook. I hate doing dishes, but I find I can't put pots and pans and all the really annoying dishes in the dishwasher anyway. So I'd go with the ultra-portable 'puter.
Consider a portable dishwasher if you're going to bother with a dishwasher at all. Countertop dishwashers use a large amount of energy for only being able to do one or two sets of dishes (basically, your dinner dishes). A portable dishwasher is the size of a built-in one, but rolls from an out-of-the-way area of the house/kitchen to be hooked up to your kitchen sink for when you run it. I loved my GE Portable Dishwasher until I finally had to sell it (repeatedly rent places with built-in dishwashers now). Plus, the dishes accumulate and you wash a big load for great environmental/energy savings.
You can also get a narrow portable dishwasher. Holds fewer dishes than the big models, which is good for small households. I have this one: http://www.danby.com/product/DDW1805W/11 Nick and I run it every day. I think it costs more than $300 though.
In the choice between countertop dishwasher and netbook, I choose netbook. But I'd rather have my sweet portable dishwasher than either of those.
