I tried to update Livejournal outside today, but the sunlight blinded me and prevented me from being able to see the laptop, and when I moved to the shade, the wind started up. It made me sad, but a tinge of spring is in the air. Soon, there will be no wind, or snow. It makes me extraordinarily happy, because spring is my favorite season! And I'm so ready for the snow to vanish 'til next year; isn't everyone?
I bought this book yesterday called Eureka!, and it explains 81 important ideas, like Luddism and Relativity and Phenomenology. I'm very excited to learn about those, though I'm sure large portions of the theories are missing...How can you explain theories like that in a couple of pages?
In other news, I've been thinking I ought to start visiting professors on their office hours again, just to ask idle philosophy questions. I told Ben Hale (one of my favorites) last semester that I would visit him this semester for two different reasons, and I haven't even visited him for even one yet. Still, I'm always happier when I feel I have some sort of friendships going with the philosophy professors, so I need to do that.
I need to finish both The Apology and The Genealogy of Morals. Nietzsche is more difficult to read straight through than I previously suspected. As my existentialism professor, Wes Morriston, put it, "'Nietzsche is easy to read, but difficult to understand.'" That makes no sense, and yet it does. Speaking of that last sentence, I realized that I think and speak in contradictions quite often, which is why the continentals would love me but the analytics would hate me to death. But what else is new?
relativity,
ideas,
school,
class,
philosophy,
professors,
phenomenology
