My uncle won't be able to make the annual Parker Christmas Eve because his ALS has gotten too advanced. We're not sure how long he has left. Carolyn tells me his sight and hearing are going now, to join his speech and mobility. His mind is still strong, though. What a way to go.
My grandmother will be there, mostly. A series of strokes have left her also without full control over her speech, or mobility. Her mind has also suffered, though, so her sense of time and recognition of loved ones aren't consistent.
Uncle Joel passed away this year. His children will be there, along with the rest of the family, sharing our first Christmas without him.
Merry fucking Christmas.
