an apple day

on the first autumnal sort of day we rushed out of the city and out to go apple picking! it was so lovely to be thrust into the bright green and blue countryside. we rode on the back of a tractor through mucky muddy fields and picked a quarter of a bushel each. as with evolution we developed sticks, first straight, then found ones with hooked ends, to reach those taller branches. but wendy got smacked in the face: newton's law. some little boys were pitching apples and smashing them on trees. so at times we could feel mushy, makeshift applesauce beneath our muddy sneakers.

the orchard also sells delicious apple cider donuts. we had some with hot cider. i bought a whole bunch and brought some to work today, and now i sound like this lady.

last night erik & stephen came over, and we ate donuts and drank wine, and i tried mulled wine with the spices i bought. i also bought apple spice cake mix so i hope to make a decent cake with all the apples i bought.
