Car Saga!

Sep 15, 2010 23:00

For Christmas in 2008 my parents Gave me money to buy car. With it I bought a '95 mercury Mystique and paid for insurance for a year. I paid $500 for the car and put $100 worth of work into it. The car was old but good. I ran perfectly for a year until last Christmas the compressor belt went ka-put on it. another $100 and she was going again but it was the beginning of the end.

She's taken me Half way across the country (and back!) 2 times, from Northern NB to Halifax and back too many times to count + my Daily 2 hours round trip to the hospital. She's worked hard and I figure she doesn't owe me anything.

Two weeks ago she started acting up. Having a had time getting into gear, revving very high, etc. A week ago she started to stall if you went below 20km an hour. Quick assessment by MB- The fuel pump was going going and almost gone! Wayyy to much to fix! *sigh* I also had to plate her, switch the insurance and get an "E" test (Emissions test).

The end of Misty. She was a very good little car!! Even when she got Smushed last year on the highway (story HERE!) She kept going for a little while longer.

So Saturday the 4th I went to the bank asking for a car loan of about $15 000. I figured that was enough to get a solid used car. She put my info in and it came back with a bit of an ouch. I would qualify for a rate of 13.9%... OUCH! Ok, so she would submit the information and see what came back and I would probably need a co-signer. Urgh! ok. So due to the long weekend she didn't get work back until Weds. That I for-sure needed a go Signer. Ok So I gave her my mom's work #. She called my mom. My mom talked to her and discovered that both her and my dad had to co-sign as everything else they have is in both names. My Dad is in Halifax atm on a Business trip! So my mom asked the Bank lady to e-mail my Dad with updates!

URGH! Mistake! Why? She then started talking ONLY to my dad! Not to me, not to my MOM! To my DAD! WHO IS IN HALIFAX! Wiskey Tango Foxtrot! She totally blocked *ME* the person applying for the loan out of the process.

Nice right?

I didn't even find out I was "Approved" until my Dad called late Friday to talk to my mum and he mentioned the loan and we were both like "HUH?"!

Nice eh? Block out the person applying for the loan in favour of her Dad who couldn't budget to save his life *sigh*

Anyway so they approved the loan on the condition that they bank ONLY pays for the "Black Book" value of the car, fees, taxes etc have to come out of my own pocket.... WTF??! that Basically means $3 000 they bank is NOT going to pay.... Uhhh talk about USELESS! I need a bank loan because I *JUST* started working and haven't saved up enough $$ for a large deposit! OI!

Anyway so the bank loan is OUT! So On Saturday My mom and I went car shopping, looking at new cars. The reason? I wanted a Used Honda Fit, 2008's were going for $18 500!! Sheesh! so we thought we would look new and just check out the price scope!

First My mom took me to a Toyota Dealer ship "Just to see" what they had. Now I really do like the ECHO. It's a nice car, very good safety record etc. The ECHO hasn't been made in 5 years, the slightly bigger cousin is the "Yaris". SO we took a YARIS out for a spin. I was surprised at how well it handled and moved. I actually really liked the car. Also We we talked just a general quote the guy who was showing us the car gave me $1500 in rebates from Toyota right away. + some extra. He was quoting just under $20k for a new car. + he told us when we left that there was some "wiggle" room.

Ok!

So off to the Honda Dealership. I went to the Used dealer the day before and they had one Honda fit coming in, but none on the lot. The Only way I could for-sure see it was if I put a deposit on it... Uhh yeah no thanks. The guy I dealt with was very nice thought (note to self I should call and thank him). So we went to the "new" dealership. (same owner group but they have a used lot and a new lot) and looked at the fit and took it for a drive. I like the car but I wasn't half as impressed as the Yaris. He was nice but pushy. He wrote up a quote for $24k Not including a bunch of stuff I needed and wouldn't budge on the price. Not even a tiny bit... OUCH! Then he asked what he would need to do to "Get the deal done today." I told him flat out knock 4 grand off the price! He actually was taken back that I would say that. So we walked outta there.

BUT! While we were waiting the guy I spoke to on Friday came over (I went to the "new" lot first not realising there was a difference). He was very very nice and I told him I was between the Yaris and the Fit and he said "If they were both free which would you choose" right away the Yaris popped into my head (although I didn't say that). So he was actually very very helpful in the end.

After a quick stop at Cost-co we went over to the Mazda dealership just to add a 3rd option on the table! I checked out the New Mazda 2. I actually REALLY like it alot, it had great visibility. And I LOVED!! the green colour. The problem was a) this is the first year this model car is out (2011!) and b) it was very pricey!! So it was nice to have the third option but I decided to go with the Yaris.

So Yesterday I went to the Toyota Dealership. The nice thing is it's less than 5 mins from my house. So if I need something it's easy to get to and basically on my way home! I walked in with my mum around 7pm, it was pretty quite one couple there talking to another Sales man. I really liked the Sales guy I dealt with on Saturday so I decided if He wasn't there (as it's Monday night after 5 and not everyone works after 5!) I would just test drive the Yaris again and then come back the next day. He was there and he lite up like a Christmas tree when he saw us.

I asked to take the Yaris on another test drive (actually i'm worried about how bright the dashboard is. It's orange and very strong so I was worried about getting killer headachs, but it actually adjusts to a very nice and confortable level which is good!). That I wasn't totally sold- yet.

So we go on the test drive and it just convinces me that this is the car I want to buy. So we talk a few extra things. Like winter tires and some accessories (like GPS, which was wayyy too much & blue tooth). He said to me "If I can do a bit more on this deal, do you think we could get it done tonight?"

I looked over to my mum who nodded just a bit and I said, "Lets see what you can do."
He had originally given me $500 for being a new grad (all I had to do was show my Degree!) If I put $500 down, they would give me $1000 rebate, SWEET! He dropped the price down enough to give me the winter tires (On rims! Including the first time on and off) for free. He also paid for my licensing fee as well as "a little extra off the top." He gave me $100 for my car as a "trade-in" pretty much he's going to call a tow truck to take it away when I leave. Which is ok I figure the car doesn't owe me ANYTHING!

So!

The base price was about $15 000 where it's usually around $17 000 + the air/cruise/power stuff package which was about $2 800 + freight, PDI, Taxes etc Came out to about $22 000. (after rebates!) then we added in the Rust Proofing (hello I live in northern Canada! it's a MUST thanks to the SALT!) and an extended warenty. 6 years or 200 000km. Which is good since I drive about 30 000km a year(give or take) So I *SHOULDN'T* out drive the warenty. Also it's bumper to bumper for those 6 years(except for Break pads, Disk/drums. Wipers & bulbs). Included road side assistance anywhere in Canada & the US for the 6 years and fully transferable. oh AND! 4 free oil changes& tire rotations. Adding that in along with a few little fees it came out to: $24 444.89. I financed it for 5 years so $406 (give or take a couple of pennies) a month.

The good news is it's an open ended loan, so I can pay it off as fast as I want... Also it's 0% interest!!!! So I ONLY pay the $24 444.89 and not a penny more! Which is good because even at 1.9% for 5 years it's about $2000 in interest.

So I decided to take the car! The sales guy tried really! Really! hard to find me a "Bayou Blue" car!! there was none left in a 2010 in 150km of Ottawa that had the same model/package that I wanted (They had some base models, and they had 2 with manual drives, but no automatics :(!!). They had a dark grey and a white car left. I picked the dark grey car (white cars are terrible to keep clean!).

So I bought a 4 door hatch-back, 2010 Toyota Yaris in "Meteorite Metallic".

Also! I had to go and get my driver's license! I still have my NB license, and I need to switch in order to get insurance in Ont. So I get the place and there are like two people in front of me. Takes me about 5 mins to get up to the desk, not bad. She asks for my passport and my current license. The first think she says to me is "Ma'am these signatures don't match".

Huh? Aparently The signature on my passport (printed) and signed don't match neither does the one on my drivers license, which doesn't match to my health card which looks nothing like any of the signatures on the back of my cards.

Whoops! She was super bitchy about it she asked for MORE ID I gave her EVERYTHING I have. Birth certifgate, Passport, Driver's license, Healthcard, Credit card, tax recipts, and my nursing license.

She told me she didn't believe that I was who I said I was...

*blink*

I started laughing at her. She was holding THREE pieces of government photo ID, and Three pieces of government ID and i'm not "Jackie Jones".

She was really bitchy "This is not a laughing matter! You shouldn't be laughing this is very serious, I'll probably have to call the police to confirm your identity."

Seriously???! I told her I wanted to speak to her supervisor. She was all huffy and went to get her. Her supervisor was just as huffy with me about my signatures not matching, but said I had enough ID to prove That I was me! (go figure!) She made me sign my signature as close to as many ways as it appears on my different IDs... yes she made me sign the form 4 different times. until she was satisfied! Sheesssh! All over a signature!! Then they give me my temp. license it's a piece of paper that says "Valid with-out photo ID" meaning I carry this piece of paper around until I get my photo card in the mail. Seems rather silly to me and very easy to fake but anyhoo!

I got my license then got insurance! OUCH! It's $173/month. They changed the rules on Sept. 1st! meaning that instead of forgiving your accident after 5 years it's now 6!! So my accident 5 years ago is still on there. GAH! Next year it should go down ALOT more though, around $100 probably!

SO yeah that's the whole saga I work Thursday/Friday night, (1930-0730!) but I pick my car up at 3pm on Friday! ha!

Very excited :D!! I'll try and post some photos On Saturday!

xx
