The lawnmower is now my friend.
The lawn was becoming overgrown, so Misti and I ventured out to Lowes to get a lawnmower and edge trimmer last night. It was late when we got home, so we left uncrating the mower and trimmer for this afternoon. I got home from church and began to uncrate my new toy. The most difficult part was removing the packing materials--is it really necessary to put bubbletape on every single part, then wrap it in plastic? But once released from the packing materials, assembly was very easy. Starting the motor took a few pulls to get the oil and gas moving around, but after that it started on the first pull every time.
Husqvarna 700F mowers are BEASTS. This thing chewed through 8-10" grass like it was nothing. I foolishly attempted to bag the clippings when I first started. This didn't last long--I was emptying the bag after every few feet. I simply changed it to discharge and attacked the lawn in earnest. The front yard is done, the back yard needs a very, very good raking before I'll approach it with the mower. There are just too many twigs, nails, and heaven knows what else in there yet. Something to do on my day off on Wednesday. :P
